Used Edge

I know that Hypertech's programmers are pretty vehicle specific, but the Evolution is for all 2004-2006 Tritons, right?

I have an 05 4.6, and I am going order one used, should I be concerned in any way?

Also, I do not want to run >91 octane, is the towing mode a good, efficient mode for daily driving? I am looking for performance (torque, hp) and maybe some mileage help.

Thanks!

about it being used, it should be alright but make sure when you get it you plug it in to your computer and download the software and return the edge to the original settings.

Yes, the towing mode (level 2) is a good choice for all around performance and it only requires 87 octane.

Make sure the seller puts his truck back to stock first otherwise it will be useless to you.

Im just curious why you don't want to run a higher octane? I run 93 octane and the fuel savings offset the extra cost of the higher octane. Try it out for a few tanks, you probally won't go back to 87.

why would it be useless?? He can just reset the edge and it will work fine

Nope, the Edge can only be loaded to one truck at any given time.

I have heard that 93 octane will give better mileage. Have you done an actualy analysis of your mileage and cost to come to your conclusion, or have you just seen much better mileage with the 93?

Yes, I did the calculations actually in my Advanced Topics math class and it came out to be ALMOST dead even. I believe its costing me like 3 cents more to run 93 octane for the whole tank. I'll pay the 3 cents more, get way better performance, and better mileage any day personally.

Results may vary though.

Thanks for the reply. Hmmmm...when I get my Edge, I may try level 3 for a little while and see how my mileage looks.

Same here, I have been getting 15.5 mpg mixed city/highway and thats running 325/60/18's and a leveling kit. . When the truck was both stock and on lvl2 the BEST that I ever saw was 15mpg on a long trip and just that one long trip. Otherwise my avg. was 13.75-14mpg, thats with the truck running the stock tires and no lift. It doesn't seem right, bigger tires, more HP and better mileage..... But thats what I got!!!

I was getting 12.3 mpg pre-edge with my 35s and lift. But, now with the edge set for 93 octane, I have been getting 14.5-15.5 mpg all the time.
