tuner and intake info

Well, I am going to spring for a tuner. I would like to get some gains in HP, but know its not going to be much. My main concern is getting my speedo back to normal from my gear swap. What tuner should I be looking at?

Also, what intake is the better choice? I have had good experience with K&N on my other truck. Just thought I would get others opinions.

Thanks
M V

I like my superchips and my k&n. Tuner didnt do much but make it shift like a nascar. K&N took the throttle lag and maybe gave me an extra mpg.
Theres my 2 cents

You can do what I done, look in my Signature. The edge is the best bang for the buch mainly because of the versatility of the tuner. It stays hooked up all of the time, and allows you to monitor certain things of your choice. Like they said do a search and you will find a lot of info. I done the Airaid Jr. because it was a great price, and was super super easy to install, and they are well know, and figured there wouldn't be any idle problems or check engine lights. For about $500 you could have a really big improvement over stock, and make it very fun to drive. By the way its not really the horsepower that amkes it worth it to me, its how the truck shifts now, wow.

Shifting like a Nascar is great if you want your tranny to have a long life. Of course we all like the smooth shift but that just means it's slipping.

I went with the EDGE because it's a great product for a good price. I can't say it's better than the XcalII, but I can tell you it's about $100 cheaper and according to first hand comparisons the difference is marginal at best. Not to mention it's a very aesthetically appealing unit in comparison to the XCalII which looks more like Zach Morris's cell phone than a tuner.

A lot of guys really love their Volant CAI's by the way.

I would have to agree that all the Edge did for me was make it shift way better, much quicker better response, but Im sure you'll get the same thing out of any tuner. I just like the bling bling factor of the edge thats why I picked it over the others.

Better is a bad word to use my friend. The question you should be asking is what is better for you. Do you prefer to have a mounted pod for your tuner with guages (EDGE) or is that not a priority? What is your price range? You can get a tuner anywhere from $280 (Jet, not reccomended though) to about $460 (XCalII by Troyer, Bamachips, etc). Is this simply a fun mod for a daily driver or are you really wanting to make your truck competitive? Are you planning to add forced induction of any kind? Do you want to be able to plug it in and be done or are you willing to data log?

Figure that out and we can all help you out.

I don't understand how anyone can say the Edge did not improve their vehicle's performance only their shifts and response. The Edge knocked a few secounds off of my 0-60 times and my 1/4 mile times. .

Please, for the love of all things good, research this just a little bit before this thread goes any farther... please? I don't say that as a smart-**** but more as a moderator that has been around the block a few times with these my daddy versus your daddy threads -- which is how ALL of them turn out. Some go longer than others but, they always lead to one point....

This topic is the epitome of beating a dead horse.

yea searching would help you alot. but I would go with the edge. You can program a lot of different things and it also has a lot of neat guages. I dont have an intake but I would go with the volant. I have heard good things and it also is in a closed container which I think protects it.
