Installed my new scuff pads
Installed my new scuff pads
In case you guys missed my last post about this, my 04' had 2 long scuff pads on the door sils with the F150 logo in them. When I picked up my new truck, I noticed I only had one on the drivers side and it was pretty small. So, under warranty, they ordered me new ones...the 04' style. I put them on today and they look real good. If you dont have them, I would say deff. do it. They are pretty durable and protect the paint on the sils from scratching. I had my 04' for 2 1/2 years and they looked as good as they did the day I got it. Heres a quick little "how I did it" Its really pretty easy and took all of about 45 minutes to set up put them on, take pictures and clean up.
Heres what the one on the drivers side looked like

I taped off the leading edge of the original pad, heated it with a hairdryer and pulled it off. It came off real easy ( in one piece ). I then used a cleaner / degreaser to clean the area before putting the new one on.

It was a little chilly here, so I used the hairdryer to heat up the door sil and the new scuff pad before I put it on. I think it helped, because I was able to flex and bend the pad pretty easy. Line the one edge up with the tape mark. Make sure the top edge of the pad is as far in and under the lip as it can go. It will hit a little ledge in there. Then work from one side, pull the paper off the back as you go and smooth it out.

Once I had the flat part ( top ) of the pad in place, I heated the edge of the pad once again to make it bend over the ledge easy. Work from one end again, and rud your hand from the top ( closest to the inside of the truck ), across the edge straight out towards yourself.

Since I didnt have one on the passanger side, I measured the distance from the trailing edge to the base of the door latch. It's 14.5 inches to the trailing edge of the pad.

Do the same surface prep and install the pad the same way as you did on the driver side. Start at one end and peel the paper off the back as you go along.

And of course, I heated this side the same and heated the edge before I rolled it over.

I had one small air bubble in the pasanger side. I stuck it with a small pin, heated it with the hairdryer and smoothed it out. I cant even tell where the bubble was now.
Hope this helps anyone who wants to do this. I know its pretty simple to do. But its always nice to see it being done and have the measurements of where they go.
So, I guess I have my first mod on my new truck..
It was too cold, for my sick azz to be out there to put my LT handles on. Hopefully I'll get them done this week and will post pictures asap.
Almost forgot, heres the P/N's

Seriously though -- I didn't know that those existed! Thanks for the pics and how-to. They look killer.... again, it's those 'little details' that make the difference!

HAHA..well, although I LOVED the Yellow and will miss it, I have fallen in love with the Black. It looks like a totally different truck.
