Brake Pads Thread 10,001

Ok I know there are about 10,000 threads on brake pads, but it's time for me to change them. If you have changed your front pads out for pads other than OEM pads please tell me how you like them. I am putting a set of after market wheels on soon, and I would like to get rid of the brake dust. Please no smart *** comments. Post only if you have had a good experience with after market pads. Tell me what you have, and where you got them.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Brake pads not Brahe pads. WOW long day.

Get Akebono ProACT pads. They have absolutely no brake dust, not a HINT of squealing. I couldn't ask for more and if there is anyone here who has gone through brake pads, I'd like to think thats me. If not I feel really bad for that guy, I can list all the poor brake pads I've tried but this and Porterfields are the only that are tried and true. The akebono pads are only 65/pc or so. Cheaper than the Porterfields and probably the exact same performance. Go to http://www.Rockauto.com and use the coupon code: 5AAD58002264 (5% discount).

ACT1011 Front Pads = $65.79
ACT1012 Rear Pads = $60.79

Shipping was under $10 for me. Let me know if I helped.

OEM pads 0-900 miles. Horrible dust and squealing.

Morse Ceramics. 900-5550 miles. No difference over OEM dust and stopping performance. No squeal except when sitting a couple days. Advanced Auto @ $50.

Porterfields 5550-@5800. Slight squeal under 10mph even with anti squeal applied to back of pads (can only hear with radio off). Dusty for for 1st 100 miles now it seems to be getting better. Could be in my head by I think they grab twice as good as the other pads I've had, they at least give me more confident braking. Straight from Porterfield $89 (mention you're a member here).

I have the Porterfields in the front and stock in the rear. I have almost "0" dust on the front rims and i havent washed it lately with the weather. With the stock pads the dust gets everywhere and stuck to your hands ..The Porterfields are great. The little to no dust that there is washes right off without "sticking" everywhere. If you tow at all dont get ceramics due to the heat they create. Here is a link to the correct front pads on ebay from the same guy i bought mine from last August

Josiah, How much of an improvement would you say these pads are vs the stock pads, as far as braking, not dustwise... My local goodyear shop said that the stock break pads are pretty good...

I didn't notice a difference. They didn't even require a breakin period, I put them on and went to clean up, never took the truck out that day. Next day I took it out and forgot I had new pads installed, I think that says something.

Why not tow with ceramics. First time I heard that before. I tow a small 18' Bigfoot TT a few times a year. I just put on Akebono ProACT pads on both front and rear. Am I going to have problems?

Here's the place to get them Indiana. www.porterfield-brakes.com I got mine there and mention you are a member here and you get a little discount. Mine have been on (front and rear) for about 9k miles now and I love them. No dust at all and they do feel better than stock.

Are the ceramics okay with OEM rotors? Or should I get a set of Powerslots and ceramics?

yeah, thousands of posts on this, and the majority says Porterfield! My Porterfields have been great for 16k miles so far, lots of pad left and no dusting.

And order them from the ebay auction. Member Guigster confirmed that even though if you order direct from Porterfield for the $89 forum discount, their shipping costs are greater than what you pay for them from that guy on ebay.

What type of life should one expect from the Porterfields? I have about 13K miles now, and am thinking about replacing my stock pads.
