Hmmm never happened to me, but doesn't sound good. Could you have spilled some or something? Or gotten it on your shoe?

I had a similar thing. Every now and again I would smell gas when I would start 'er up. It would happen after refueling now and again as well. It turned out to be a crack in the metal part of the fuel line that goes from the filter to the fuel rail. My dealer found it when I had the truck in for #3 service. The cool part was I hadn't said anything about it, they found it, fixed it, and told me after. It was all covered by warranty of course. Without warranty it would have cost me around $400 to fix it.

What part of the metal line was the crack on? I haven't even looked yet, so excuse my igonorance if it is extreemly obvious; I have about of foot of snow on the ground right now and do not want to crawl under the truck if I don't have to.

My truck has a gas oder from the vents whenever I am stopped. When I am moving or if the vents are closed, the smell goes away. This is driving me crazy and your fix may hopefully be my solution.

I'm not trying to sound any alarm bells, this was the problem on my truck. It may be a different issue on yours. Best thing to do is take it in and have it looked at, fuel odour/leaks are not to be taken lightly. Whatever the problem warranty covers it (assuming you still have warranty).

I delt with this in another truck on filling the tank there was a seal in the tank that was loose and would let some fuel splash out of the tank where the filler neck meets.

Apples to Oranges I know..

I had a 78 Mustang, similiar issue...

Just dropped my girlfriend off, driving in the middle of town and all of the sudden my Mustang turned into a bonfire...

Needless to say... get that smell checked out!

Yeah TBird, what part of the fuel line?

Kapoho, let me know what you find, and I'll do the same.

I've noticed the same strong smell of gas a couple of times in the past. I pulled into a Home Depot Thursday and smelled gas pretty strong after shutting the truck off. I had filled the tank earlier but had driven close to 60 miles since then. Probably should take it in for a check over.
