Thats what "shift on the fly" is all about.
To shift or "click" while driving!
I would be disapointed if I didnt hear/feel somthing while going from 2wd to 4wd, but thats just me, not trying to start anything!

Which one is it? 'Spinning' your rear tires or just driving with both sets of wheels going the same speed? If your spinning your back tires than see ya see ya! I know what it feels/sounds like when it engages into 4wd but when Im getting a clunk and a failure to engage, I have a problem. My point is the rear and front tires MUST be going the same speed to engage 4wd otherwise you're killing your 4wd. .

Anyways, back on topic.

thats my clunk too- i can def see thumper's point, but i can see scottie's too- when im going up a slick incline, that ive been dominating in 2wd, and i start to lose traction, i pop it in 4wd, while still having some-not fast at all- forward progress- usually, if ive got steady traction it wont clunk while moving, but if my fronts are slipping, and i try and engage, it will clunk... if i had to stop entirely (such as a 4l case) i would have to roll in reverse half way down the mountain till i hit a flat again... sorry for jumping off-T

my do the exact SAME thing!!! Im going to take it in tomorrow and tell them what I think about my FORD truck (thats after I pick it up and its fixed)

I honestly never had any problems with ALL the GM's I've ever owned!!!

No offense, but the people that are DIE HARD FORD PEOPLE are not going to say anything is wrong with their trucks. I personally would not drop a dime into another NEW FORD....This is my last FORD

Im a die-hard Ford man but I'll admit my truck has problems. .

Update:

I dropped the truck off this morning at 7:30 and talked to the service manager for about 30 minutes. I discussed my position on the truck and explained to him that if they can't fix it in a timely manner and get everything fixed perfect that Im going to lemon law the damn thing. The guy agreed with me and said he'd help me out get everything fixed even if that meant getting a new truck . . I also explained that I wouldn't be getting another truck without driving it for a week without signing the papers and he said he'd work it out with the sales department for me.

My truck sounds just like yours. The ticking the engine makes sounds kinda like a diesel. Is that how yours is?

Yup, I spoke to the service manager about that also. He said he has been getting a lot of complaints but Ford is just telling him that the 5.4s are supposed to sound like that. . but he said he does not agree with them so he said he was putting it on file for the future. The thing that sucks is if they can't fix everything, than Im fileing lemon law so I'll be starting all over.

My 06' with the 5.4 sounds like a diesel as well. I have never owned a Ford before, so I figured it was normal since the truck has less than 500 miles on it.

Sounds like you have a nice service writer, the ones around here will not warranty ANYTHING if you have aftermarket parts on your vehicle... Personally, I think it would be natural for the brakes to be softer considering the lift and bigger wheels and tires?! Or was it fine for a long time after the new wheels and tires went on?

Mine does it all of the time. So nothing about that can be done? I also have a loud clunk when I make turns. It sounds like something is sliding around in the bed. I have tons of rattles and the most annoying thing is how much my driver's seat squeaks!!! My brakes of course put out tons of brake dust and squeal really bad. What exactly do you mean when you say your brakes feel soft? I don't know if I have the same reverse problem but mine makes a loud whining noise in when in reverse. I also get a squealing noise from the front when I turn but I think that might have something to do with my bump stops wearing out with that metal on metal contact. After driving it for a while, it stinks really bad like sewage kinda like the catalytic converter smell. Is that normal? I may be heading down to the dealer for a little thrashing soon for some of this stuff.

Im really starting to look into lemon law, it'd be nice to get a 06. This way, I can just get 37s from the start.

My brakes have always been like this and he knows it so its not cause of the wheels and tires. Think about it though, bigger tires/wheels is basically like pulling a trailor, these trucks were meant to pull trailors all day long forever. But, if your dealers won't warranty anything if you have aftermarket parts they are commiting a crime and could get into some serious trouble. .

My brake pedal goes to the floor. The squeal and brake dust is a Ford trait and can only be fixed by ceramic pads so I really wouldn't make a big deal about that. When your in reverse, its supposed to whine a little bit. Last but not least about the smell, you probally have a bad(s) catalytic converter(s). Just a hint of advice, don't 'thrash' the dealer you're not going to get any where doing that. Just remember, its not really the dealer's fault about any of your trucks problems

I have almost 50,000 on my original pads. I am gonna change them next week. My uncle owns a shop and last time I rotated my tires he said that my brakes looked great for the miles that i had and that it was probably about time for me to change them. They havent squealed or anything like that. Overall I have had very few problems with my truck.

Only thing that bothers me are:
3rd Brake light leaks
left rear Tail light acts like it is going to vibrate out.
Cab is starting to squeak in the door jams while I am driving. (Thank you Arkansas Highway crews)
