Remote-Entry Distance Issues

My remote entry only works for about 5-10ft in front of the truck, totally useless when you're trying to find your truck. Where is the receiver mounted so I can take a look and possibly rebuild it. I just replaced my battery with an Optima Yellowtop (870/750cca). I also did my front brakes while hail (literally) was falling on me, took me like 20 minutes to do the front, what a snap. The front brakes are Akebono pads, they are supposed to be just like the Porterfields, no brake dust and no squeaking, we'll see. As always there will be a review coming soon. I got the yellow top because my battery was going out and I have died offroading while blasting the stereo, anybody have an idea of how much time I should have on a full charge to be blasting the stereo at full volume (audiophile w/sub). It died on us at a drive-in movie, totally inconvenient, probably the worse case it's happened, I sure hope I can get through an entire movie (we got about 1/2 way through with the normal battery). Anyways, about the remote-entry, whats the deal and how much does it cost to replace it (self-install)?

I'm disappointed with the range on mine sometimes as well. I don't think replacing/rebuilding it will help any.

If you are talking about the standard F-150 keyless entry, maybe you should check the battery in the key fob. I can lock my truck from inside my house, by pointing at my truck thru the window, and in a parking lot I must be able to unlock at 40 feet......... I have been running the Akebono pads for a couple of thousand miles now, and I couldn't be happier. Clean, quiet, and powerful.

Range is really affected by battery strength.

On my Powercode Ford Deluxe Gold the receiver antenna is above the rear view mirror. Don't know what the range is but it is well over 500 feet.

Mine sucks too.
When I when to the dealership to test drive the truck. I took the keys and started pushing the panic button. I was a 100 feet away, nothing....50 feet, nothing....less then 10 feet away, finally the horn started going off.
I couldn't believe it. They replaced the battery in the key chain. Still the same effect.
Oh well...........

A trick I learned from reading several F-150 Webs. The higher you hold the remote the more distant the remote will react to the alarm brain. At waist position my OEM alarm will react to within only 25 feet or less. At above head postion my alarm will react at approx 100 feet.

Is it the stock remote? If range went down its the battery in the remote. If its stock the best thing you could do is hold the remote up to and touching your chin. Yeah sounds dumb, but it will give you 25-30 feet more range. And no your not on candid camera If its an aftermarket including the ford gold/silver/bronze check the antenna location the best is ususally behind the rearview mirror however I have run into problems with the compass module up there interfering. I would move it over to either side but still up at the top of the windshield.

Absolute 100% truth.

I have personally tested this on several different vehicles, with the same results.

Up under the chin equals more distance.

I found the best way is to hold it facing the car, and with my fingers in between the remote and my chin.

Try different positions for best results.

I'll second that! I have been using that trick for years!
However, the "standard" factory range is a joke!

I don't know what the deal is, I'll open up the damn keychain remote and replace the battery(s). I think my starter is going out, I've replaced the battery with the Optima YellowTop and now I'm getting awkward startups, it takes about 3 full seconds at least for it to turn over, unbelievable.

My ranger has about a zillion feet range. My dodge car and my F-150 both are like 10' away, regardless of the battery.

The only thing that boosts it is the hold it under the jaw and aim my mouth at the car...seriously it more than doubles the distance.
