Anybody got this tonneau?

I've been looking to get an undercover and ran across this.

http://www.durakon.com/go.aspx?WID=Products&sm=c56.0

It is similar to the undercover in that it is manufactured from ABS. I think it is 7 pounds heavier. I like that it has one locking point and has a scissor type "hinge" on each side (undercover really doesn't have a "hinge" mechanism). It also has a raised section in the middle for styling similar to some of the fiberglass lids. I found a dealer near here, but he has not actually had anyone order one yet, so he had little info on it. The price was the same as the undercover. Not much info on the website. I found some pics on a Ford from the SEMA show and it looks nice.

Anyway, I would like to get some opinions from someone who actually has one before seriously considering it. Anybody have one? Supposedly, they have been available since last November.

So, how do you like it? How's the quality? Does it come off easily? Basically what do you think of it?

Do you have any other pics besides what's in your gallery? I was offered 650 installed.........same as undercover.

Thanks

Thanks, looks good. Looks like it has a lock/catch mechanism where all you have to do is shut it (don't actually have to lock it). Is this true?, if so I like that better than the undercover where you actually have to get the key out (twice).

The more I look at it the more I like it.

Anyone else with this cover or opinions. I would like to order a tonneau soon and I am torn between the undercover and this new duracover. The undercover is well established, but I like the latching/lock mechanism and styling of the duracover better.

Thanks

I have an Undercover and love it. The new style latches are better as you don't have to have them locked. My buddy has the old style and has to use the key to close the latches. One of the things I like best about the undercover is how low profile it is, and it is as easy as they say to take it off. It follows the lines of the box perfectly. Lo-Rider tonneaus are the most popular where I live. (Vancouver BC)

Tell me more about this new style latch/lock. The one I looked at supposedly had the new locks and they still looked like they needed a key. With the new style, can you just close the lid and it is latched? Any pics of the new style locks? I searched online at the Undercover website and there was no mention of new latching/locking mechanism.

The new style you can turn them without the key to latch it. There were pics posted on here at one time. They also come with an LED light now to help light up the box. I will see if I can remeber which post it was. I have no regrets about my undercover. My wife wanted a colour matched one but the undercover was way cheaper and won't get scratched up.

Undercover Vs Duracover

Hey MosineeFX4,

I live about 10 miles West of Mosinee. I was wondering what local dealer you found for an Undercover tonneau? I've checked a few places in Wausau, but they want over $800, which seems way too high. I'm in the process of buying a 2004 F-150, and am interested in getting an Undercover/Duracover soon afterwards.

Thanks!

I have a 2006 SCREW and the first thing I did was buy a tonneau cover for it. I had an ARE cover on my Sport Trac, but in the 3 years since I purchased it those covers went up over $300. Needless to say I didn't go with an ARE this time, but went with an Undercover and I love it. At first I didn't know how I would like the textured finished as opposed to a smooth finish with the ARE, but it's not bad at all.

As previously mentioned, with the new lock style you do not have to pull the keys out everytime you want to enter your bed. You simply turn the locks and the lid opens up, no need to lock them everytime.

I would highly recommend an Undercover and I only paid $700 for mine with installation. Good luck with your choice.

The duracover looks stronger with that hump--supporting plactic looks thicker. I like the lock position and style better on the duracover as well, it should definately be easier opening and closing. I didn't like the hump on covers for the new f150 at first, but the more I see them, the more I like them--kinda follows the same style as our hood. Does the duracover come with a light?--seems like you would have to have a light to see at night.

Truck Shop USA in Stevens Point. I had to ****er them down, but you need to do that with everyone. I actually work in Neenah, WI (long drive everyday........not with my truck) and I had been looking at the Undercover and Toys for Trucks in Neenah was willing to sell it to me for 660 installed, but I wanted to check out this Duracover and when I tried to locate a dealer online, it came up with this place in Stevens Point. When I stopped in there I found out they had not sold any of the Duracovers yet and didn't really have much info on them. I told him what I could get the Undercover for and he beat the price and also told me that I could get the Duracover for about the same price. Really nice place over there. I talked to a guy named Jim.

Right now I am leaning toward the Duracover, but wish I could get more input from others on it. That's tough to do because it is just hitting the market. I like the latching system better, even though the Undercover has new locks I like the fact that all you have to do is shut the Duracover and it latches similar to a normal door latch. I also like the "raised in the center" styling of the Duracover. It looks pretty good on civilin05's truck. Still torn though on which to order.
