12-13 is about what i get and i got a reg cab 2wd 3.55 with 5.4. I got 15K miles on mine. Once i got 15 on the highway and damn near had an orgasm. How do you drive to school everyday with just your permit. You dont do one of those drive to school and then let dad drive the truck home and then he come pick you back up ......right??????

I noticed a power gain with my K&N, the engine pulls ALOT harder especially under hard throttle. I can't speak on mileage yet I've only had the filter for a week. Driving with it for a month and averaging mileage week to week should give me some accurate numbers.

I had the exhaust done first on my now gone 2003 Expedition, and that made her feel a little more peppy.. But, when I put the K&N in, she got down right frisky.

No matter what I did, or where I went, that trip computer never showed more than 14.1 MPG....

I just know I'll catch hell for this, but I'll stick with my guns anyway. On a radio program (AM talk radio), someone who claimed to be an expert said that for the average vehicle the best fuel economy is seen in 1/2 to 3/4 trottle acceleration. Some vehicles higher some lower, I have personally seen this in my truck. I babied it (<2000 RPM acceleration) for a full tank of gas which damn near drove me insane. This tank was almost all to and from work and I averaged 11.3 mpg. Under normal to and from work driving over a full tank of gas I typically get about 12.5 mpg. I know this isn't definative or anything, but i've done some other tests. I have the lariat so I've started at a stop, reset the mpg display and done different types of acceleration up to 25-35 mph, once i reached the speed I looked at what the computer said for mpg. Around 1/2 trottle (shifting closer to 3000) has been the most efficient for me. I don't have a real job (in the navy, getting out next month though ) so i've had plenty of time to experiment.

Oh.. gains from the K&N, not much really on my 2005, but when I installed the drop in on my 2002 (both 5.4's and both 4x4) there was a noticable difference in power, and slight gains in mpg (had flowmaster sido put on same day though).

I highly doubt a filter alone will be noticeable. I replaced my Mustang's filter with a cone system that goes in the wheel well and barely noticed a change...a standard filter...nah I doubt it....all in the head

When I installed my dropin K&N(at 1200 miles) I noticed an improvement but then read where my truck's coumputer was breaking in and it would normally improve the gas mileage. So, I doubt the filter did anything other than save money on replacement cost. I get 16.5 around town and almost 18 on the highway driving 75 to 85 mph. I have noticed that certain brands of gas give better mileage, which I had a hard time believeing. I keep detailed records, and so far, Conoco is the best, then Exxon. Shell is being tested now, and so far it is the worst. Even worse than the corner independent.

if your truck only drives 14 miles round trip, the truck is barely warmed up by the time you get there. the pcm has the motor running slightly rich at start to get it to warm up, so your burnin more gas then if you drove 50 miles round trip.

As i said before, no mpg gains, just better throttle response

I would not go over 25,000. I cleaned mine at 17,000 and will do it again at about 35,000.

I will clean it this weekend. I am worried about over oiling the filter.
