Drop-In K&N Filter Question

My dad said a guy he met a guy today who has a 05 F150 5.4 and stuff and he said he got a K&N air filter, just the filter not the intake and he noticed more power and 2mpg! When my dad told me I was like there is no way! Would ya'll think that could help that much?

I did not see any MPG gain when I added mine.

no mpg gain, but it did seem a bit more willing to move.

I have just the filter in my truck and I didn't really notice any gain. If there was a gain...it was small. I bought it because I only have to buy one filter and it should last the life of the truck...any added benefits like mpg or hp would just be icing on the cake.

It's all in the head if the power is felt. Not really any mpg gain here; just cheaper in the long run. I have actually dug into it alot and it seems that paper filters are better and cleaner so....... i will be switching back

IMO, the main benefit of running a K&N or similar type filter is that it's washable and reusable. That's it. Power gains are negligible. Get one of those fancy smancy rigs with the replacement tube and conical style filter if you're out for power gains.

I get like 14-15ish around town and 17-18 on the highway, although most of my daily commute is highway. Once in a blue moon, when the planets align properly and the Earth's magnetic field is going my way, slingshotting my truck down the road, I can break 20 mpg. 12 mpg in the city ain't necessarily unrealistic for these trucks. Ain't good, ain't abnormal either.

It's only got 2700 miles? Geez man, drive it some more and re-evaluate your fuel mileage afterwards.

Looking back above, the 12 mpg thing was probably a dumbass thing for me to say; I average 11-12 mpg foot to the floor most of the time with a trailer running back and forth to Texas. Plays hell with my fuel trims when I get back to driving "normal" though.
