my pcm is shot!!!!!!!

I talked to my dealer earlier and they told me my pcm was shot....They are saying it was due to my eclipse dvd player and nav. system. I guess the navigation unit has a blue wire that has to connect to the tach wire. I had the radio installed back in late june. I would think if it was because of that it would of happend before now right??
Has anybody else had a problem like this or similar to this? I guess it not covered under warrenty either(of course).
Does anyone have any idea on the price of the pcm??

ive got to call BS on the eclipse causing the pcm to blow, i dont think there is anyway for it to backfeed into the computer and cause problems.... and also your pcm has a 80k mile warranty i believe.

If that's the case I say reinstall your factory radio and take it to another dealer to get it replaced. Unless of course they've already entered your problem in OASIS. Then you're screwed. That's BS.

The Magnason-Moss act of 1974(I believe) states that the dealer has to prove that what ever was done on a aftermarket basis,is in fact the cause of the problem. You can do a google on this to check it further.

I will find out but i doubt the stereo place cut it off. I know the dealer cut the blue wire that goes into my PCM because they say it does not belong there.

Wow........i hate corprate America. Why cant people just be honest and not make up BS. Like if you put on 22's and your air conditioning goes they'll make up some BS like 'oh..your rims were spinning at an excellerated rate and....it caused the air entering the air conditioning system to go into a vortex and it imploded the ducts causing mass damage to the exaust system....ya about 15 thousand seems right.' <-- stupid chit like that probly happens all the time.

Oh my god...........What a bunch of sorry *** people..... That just makes no sense. It's warranty for christ's sake. Take the PCM off, put a new one on, cover it under warranty! Who cares? I don't see why some dealers will do anything they can to deny FREE work. A warranty claim is gauranteed work and money in their pockets, it makes no sense to not fix something as easy as that. If it were something very obvious, like a screwdriver stuck through the casing on the PCM, then they might have a reason to worry about the warranty claim being denied and them being debited back the repair........but 95% of the time, if it is warranty, you FIX IT! When I have a car in that is about to run out of warranty I will look it up and down for ANYTHING that can possibly be fixed or replaced while it is under warranty. That is the whole reason for it. It is work that you are gauranteed to get, otherwise, when it runs out of warranty, the customer may or may not fix it and then your screwed (saying this from a technitians point of view). Warranty upsale is one of the easiest ways for me to make the hours at the dealer at NO cost to the customer, why in the hell would I make up an excuse NOT to do it? Ok, I'm done ranting and raving now, I just don't understand why some dealers work how they work......

my experience is if i short a wire over it fries the subject right now. Really fast if it was a computerized pcm. Even if welding on you should disconnect battery to keep from frying PCM. I don't believe it was a hook up . There just using it as a escape goat .

Who did the install? If you payed someone have them give the dealer a call. If not then contact Eclipse and see if they will go to bat for you and contact your dealer (probably through a SEMA lawyer). I had a Dodge that had a rear end problem that the dealer blamed on my Belltech drop kit and after contecting Belltech they called the dealer and had one of their engineers "explain" that there was no way their kit caused the problem and that they would be willing to help me challenge it to what ever level if they didn't fix the problem. The dealer caved very quickly after talking with them. If there is anyway you can get Eclipse to do this it would be very helpful to you.

I can't see how the radio, improperly installed or not could damage the PCM. Maybe through the speed sensitive volume circuit, which uses a reference from the VSS, and somehow a short to ground could have backfed through the VSS circuit and damaged the PCM, but that's grasping for straws.

As far as why they wouldn't want to do it under warranty, it's not as simple as "it's warranty, it's guaranteed money in their pockets." Some dealers don't want to risk increasing numbers on their 126 report which may lead to an audit from Ford. Some dealers are just flat out sorry. If they do replace the PCM and Ford calls for the old PCM to inspect it, and determines that the cause of failure may have been related to other circumstances beyond Ford warranty, that claim will get charged back to the dealer, the parts department loses, the dealer's management and principal loses, and the technician loses.

I however would want a damn good explaination as to how they figure an aftermarket head unit damaged the PCM.
