the dealer just called me and said they actually believe it was the remote starter which has been in the truck for appr. 2 years now. Why would that all of the sudden fry my PCM?

I'm guessing it's an aftermarket remote start? Still I don't see how that could be the problem if it's worked fine for the past 2 years. Maybe you should try another dealer.

you know it just dawned on me that you said "BLUE WIRE" on a Eclipse HU thats power antenna feed wire +12v, if they wired that to the VSS, it could be a problem......one of the ford tech on here would know, I just caught that...blue wire....hhhmmm

I have a 97 f 150 and I installed a siren in it. The siren needed to be hooked to a power source that was only hot when the key was on. So I hooked it to one of the accessories in the fuse panel (I don't remember which one). It worked fine for a few days, but later that week, things started going wrong. Every electrical componet on the truck went haywire. The key warning wouldn't quit dinging, the lights were doin' funny etc. I couldn't figure out what the heck was goin on. By chance, I tested the siren, and it wouldn't work. I traced the problem to a bad ground on the siren. The siren had its own power supply and even though I wasn't using it, it was grounding back through the fuse panel. I fixed the bad ground, and haven't had an electrical problem since. That was 3 years ago. Maybe this will help.

Thanks for the input. I am awaiting word from the dealer on my truck. They got the new pcm in on Friday . They are going to put it in and hope it works. I dont think they are going to cover it under warrenty still which sucks. My truck has 24000 miles on it and I never had a problem before now. I sure hope if I scream enough they will warrenty the PCM. I know that they already sent me a bill out for new plugs even though I never said to change them and they never said they were bad. Looks like when it comes time to get a new truck im going else where.

New plugs? Why would they charge you for those? I wouldn't let them replace that PCM unless you know it's covered under warranty. I'd go to another dealer. Though I suppose they kind of have you by the ***** having your truck and it not running and all. That really sucks and I know what you're going through. Good luck. I hope they decide to work it out with you under warranty, or at least give you a solid explanation of what went wrong and how it was explicitly your fault.

There's not on my AVN5435 Eclipse. The only protected circuit was the power (yellow wire).

Then again, I'm assuming that he has a different head unit other than the 5435 because my speed pulse wire is purple/white wire.

The wire going to the VSS is a dead wire (no power from the HU). The only signal going through it come from the VSS and is transmitted TO the HU. Ask them how could a basicaly dead wire "burn up" a PCM? As for the remote start...how are they claiming it caused it? Sounds like to me they are grasping at straws to find a reason not to fix it under warrenty.

RP, look at the pic on bottom of page 10, I have a AVN50D, same as AVN5500, just the 50D is a dealer unit....I don't know if the AVN5435 had this, but if looks like its on all the new units do..... its in the label at the end of the purple/white wire and say "Circuit Protector do not cut this off"......

If they want to charge you,I would tell them that I was in contact with the BBB and that they will need a written document from Ford stating that your HU or your remote start was the cause of the damage to your PCM. The reason being that you will need to get reimbursement from that company's product that caused damage to your PCM...

I really think that your HU or RS did not cause the damage, these guy's just want you to pay. And if it did, they would need to prove that the HU or RS did the damage. If they can't prove it you should be protected under the Moss Act..

Also why would they change your plug's if you did not ask them to? I would not pay a dime for that, first you did not ask for that service second these plugs should last 100,000 miles I think that dealer is FOS..

You're EXACTLY RIGHT.... I totally forgot about that. The 5435 **DOES** have that.

Sorry about that...

not a problem, glad you did'nt cut it off....

I don't think that a eclipse hu would kill a pcm, but i'm not sure about the first post in this tread....it stated "I guess the navigation unit has a blue wire that has to connect to the tach wire" now the blue wire is a power output for a antenna 12V+ if that was dumped into the pcm by the VSS wire, I would think this could be problem.....
