I'm going through the same thing right now. You can get the glass for $23. You do not need to replace the whole thing. Heres the catch... You must order the glass from Ford. I went through a local glass company and they have tried 3 times and still dont have the right piece of glass. Finally order it from Ford and should be here monday.

I have the glass (non heated) for $15 plus shipping if anyone want one. It's used but in excellent condition with no-scratches on the glass. I bought it while working on a project on my truck (thinking if I break it, I'll have a quick replacement). Email me if interested.

Cracked Glass - Driver's Side Mirror

I just ordered new driver's side glass/mirror for my '01 SuperCrew and Ford is going to charge me $87.58 (just for the glass). That's a LOT more than $23.00. Looks like my local Ford dealer might be trying to rip me off.

Also, does anybody know where to get the steps for replacing the mirror? I don't want to break anything trying to figure out how it comes apart... just bought the truck and haven't scored the shop manual yet...

I replace two mirrors. Both got hit by a truck and smash the plastic and all. If you do a search for "Door panel removal" There is a very detail way of taking the door panel off. This is what i use and had no problems. When you get the door panel off, There are 3 bolts holding the mirror on. Just take them off then the mirror will come out. Should be just 1 plug maybe 2 for the heat and blinker. Just unplug and plug new mirror in and bolt new mirror to truck and replace the door panel.
Hope this helps

REPLACE GLASS MIRROR ONLY - FAST, EASY, AND CHEAP

I found an excellent product with an eBay search. Replacement glass only! Perfect fit, cost $25.85 including shipping. The product is made in USA by Burco (www.burcoinc.com), the product line is called "redi cuts." I did not order the glass from Burco. The retailer (found on "eBay Motors") was WWW.AutoMirrorsPlus.com.

I didn't have to remove the door panel or anything. Just break out the old side view mirror glass and stick on the new one. It fit perfect, just like the guarantee says. I think it took me about five minutes.

Sorry it took me a while to come back to this message string.

They are on the F-150 in Truckin' a couple months back. A little small IMO. They just don't look right.
