What is this?

Today when I was changing my oil filter I noticed this peice of plastic was loose when it is supposed to be bolted on. Well the brackets on this is broke and I was wonderin what its purpose is (if it has one). Should I get it replaced? I have highlighted the peice in yellow.

I don't know what that is, but I think you should wash your truck.

It's supposed to keep the oil off of the front crossmember and rack and pinion when you pull your filter off. It's not the best design in my opinion.

That thing is a waste. When my filter comes off, the oil goes straight down. I learned that the hard way. Oil is a *beach* to get off the driveway.

It is the piece that keeps the oil off the front end. It does help if you have the front end up on jack stands to help the oil drain toward the rear. I found that out the hard way also.

As far as what it is supposed to be bolted to, I'm not quite sure. It is pretty flimsy so maybe it's fooling you.

Well the off-roading adventure went like this...The snow just melted and it had rained for a few days so when it finally quit I wanted to throw a little mud on the truck...well...I went to this place that I usually go to thats never that bad and as soon as the front wheels went in I buried up to the frame. I almost had to be pulled out but I managed to rock it out. It was weird because it wasn't even that bad. Kind of dis-heartening. Anyways no pics cause I just got back from the carwash and even though I spent $5 in quarters on this thing its stil nasty. I think I am going to keep my baby out of the mud for a while.

Don't worry about it. The stock tires suck! Get some BFG's on there and try it again.

That is the dirtiest new truck I have seen yet! Congrats on using a truck for what it was designed to do!

I don't have one of those, maybe that helps explain the mess I get when I change oil.
