I think these ALL are great units, that Clarion looks really nice too. It's all in what you are used to, and I am familiar with Kenwood's operation so that's what I chose.

I've owned like, 6 Alpine decks so I guess I'm a little partial.
I too have been pretty interested in the new Kenwood unit. So I called up Kenwood to get some additional information. I got passed along to several different people, but was eventually able to actually get some good info. Here is what I was told:
The DDX-6019 supposedly will not be shipped before April. The Kenwood distributor I talked to said that was a tentative time table that may get pushed back, but he would be "very surprised" if it shipped before then. He said it was pegged to go for ~$1200.
Thew new Nav system (KNA-G510) is pegged to go for an additional $950. I pushed on what the differences were between the old and new, but didn't get a lot of additional information. It will be backwards compatible and should be available sometime in March.
The biggest feature I am interested in is the bluetooth capability. Apparently, it will be an add on that is not yet priced (but likely in the 150 - 200 range). It will then allow you to have access to your phone's phonebook, etc. The bluetooth add-on is what will come with the microphone, that can be installed / clipped somewhere.
Hope this helps anybody who was considering waiting for one of the new ones.

The only problem with the 6019 is that it doesn't look like an excelon. If thats the case the 8017 has a 3 year warranty and the 6017 has a 1 year warranty. Thats a big factor when your spending 1200-1700 dollars. Plus, all the non-excelon units have only had 2V pre-outs.
As for the discussion of Alpine vs. Kenwood vs. whatever, is like chevy vs. FORD vs. whatever.

JBZIGGY: That new nav system uses an internal hard drive to access the info and is upgradeable with the SD memory slot. That's the main difference between the old ones. The old ones had to read a DVD. With a hard drive, the screen scrolling is super fast and other things are quicker too. I know the 2007 S-class has a hard drive navigation vs the previous DVD ones and it works very fast.
