The big drawback for me with the new Kenwood, Alpine and Clarion units is the lack of a built in nav drive. I don't want another separate thing mounted somewhere in the truck, there are not any great places to mount the drive, and the cost makes it out of reach for me anyway.

They have Kenwood navigation packages that aren't too much on eBay sometimes. I mounted my Nav unit under the driver seat and you dont even know it's there.

Sorry, I think the 7017 was Excelon until the 8017 came out. At least thats whats on the website now. Either way I think they are both great units.
My biggest issue with all of these units and one reason I like the Kenwood's is that I don't need navigation. I find it a totally useless option. I drive all over the country and just have never been put in the situation to need navigation. Maybe, if I threw away all of my free StateFarm atlas's I would then need navigation. So when a company adds navigation to a unit I don't want to pay for that. If a navigation is included the price is higher or the audio standards are lower. I want an audio/DVD receiver thats it.
I will say the new Eclipse 6600 is AWESOME, but will probably be around 2k. And I simply won't use half those features.
This is just my jiberish, I don't have anything right now so look whos talking. I will either be getting the 8017 or some excelon product.
I will say this the 8017 is the only unit to have TRUE surround sound with the availability to add a center speaker. The rest are trying to make surround without a center speaker. Again, is this a big neal no but its cool.

Not much, one is Excelon 8017 and one is not 7017.
