The DDX7017 is not an Excelon product. UNLESS IT WAS WHEN IT FIRST CAME OUT. As of now the only Double DIN Excelon in the DDX8017.

I have been researching these things forever. The 8017 is the best double DIN on the market IMO. It isn't the cheapest but when you compare features to features the 8017 has them all beat. Alpine is nice but if you don't include navigation, WHICH ISN"T AN AUDIO FEATURE the EKnwood blows all of them away.

I'd suggest you take a look at Eclipse prodicts.

my bro has the avn2454. it sucks. the only thing going for it is the nav. which you have to remove the dvd to watch your own dvd. and you also have to hit a acknoledge button everytime you start the car. and there are no adjustable crossover. and to top it al off the damn volume button is on the wrong side for us americans

According to the stereo shop I deal with, the 6019 is going to be $850.
They told me about it last month when I went looking and they said wait for this one. I was gonna buy the 7017 and it was a grand. He gave me the brochure withall the 2006 models. Looks like a nice unit at a decent price.

Wonder why it is so cheap? At that price, they can be had on ebay for probably $500. I got my 7015 for $860 when they retailed for $1200. I also wonder if because it isn't an excelon is why it is cheaper.....The ol' trusty 7015 may be better quality than the 6019........

Take a look at the AVN5435, AVN5495, and the AVN6600. Im sure you'll re-think it after that. .

Why would you need to have a DVD and the DVD map disc in the unit at the same time? The 'I Agree' button shows up on a lot of navigational units, its a liability thing. If the volume button is on the wrong side, than wouldn't that make the 'Last Track/Next Track' button be on the wrong side as well for us Americans?

PS: The AVN6600 will be going in my next truck.

So you can flip back and fourth between your movie and where you are going on long trips . But I do like the Eclipse units, that was my other choice when I was looking at them. The built in Navi was always something I looked at.

I'm just talking about my experience from the 7015 vs 2454. I don't have to his an agree button or get a warning screen ever. which I really like. and I also hate using a remote. so the volume on the right side is annoying to reach for. the nav thing I can almost overlook since I don't have it with the 7015. but using nav video while listening to the DVD audio from my dream theater Live at Budokan is something I would want to do If I had the nav

No offense, but Pioneer is really not helping those who want an All in One package. The AVIC-D1 was supposed to be competitive for me, but the lack of DVD support lost it's vote. They did it once again with the Z1:

Looks like you'll be needing an outputed signal to view the DVD. I really love the Pioneer software, just wish they'd get their game together and give me a doubledin option.

I know the 2007 S-class has a hard drive navigation vs the previous DVD ones and it works very fast.

Appreciate the clarification. I understood the SD slot and the advantages there, but didn't realize the difference in speed associated with the hard disk. That sounds pretty sweet.

From what I was told, the new NAV will be backwards compatible for anybody interested.

My understanding is that it will NOT be backward compatible. It actually won't even work on all of the new units. Just the ones that have the "BlueTooth" functionality. It seems to be listed as a separate feature on the units that have it.

I love the eclipse 5495, but wish it had the bluetooth functionality. Does anyone know if eclipse will be offering this?

Eclipse is coming out with the AVN5500 and AVN6600. The major advantages I can see is they both can use an ipod control module to control your ipod on screen, although you can do more with your ipod with the 6600. The 6600 also has two DVD drives, so you can have your nav disk in the slot, and have the kids in the back entertained with a DVD of your choice.

The big drawback for me with the new Kenwood, Alpine and Clarion units is the lack of a built in nav drive. I don't want another separate thing mounted somewhere in the truck, there are not any great places to mount the drive, and the cost makes it out of reach for me anyway.

I think I'm going to go with the AVN5500 from Eclipse as soon as I get my taxes back. It will do everything I want, built in nav drive, Sirius compatible, ipod controls, and a reasonable cost.
