iPod Full Speed custom install w/ pics

I just finished with my custom install of my new Full Speed iPod cable with my CDA-9856 deck. Let me tell you... this thing is sweet! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED. It allows for full control of the iPod through the radio including all the search features. And unlike the external box, this thing is lightning quick.

Now for the details of my custom install...

First I started by removing the radio and drilling a hole in the back of the bottom tray just big enough to fit the cable through.

After that I fed the wire through the opposite way so that it won't fall back inside the dash because the dock connector will not fit through the hole. Then I gathered up the wire in the dash and tied it up, then reinstalled the radio. I bought one of those sticky pads at Best Buy for $1.99 so the iPod won't slide around. Now the iPod goes inside the tray while it plays through the radio!

The search functions are easy to navigate, and most importantly, it sounds GREAT!!

It sounds great. 100000X better than one of those FM modulators. And the full integration makes it easier to use than a P.I.E. adapter.

I can pull it out all the way up to the 4.5' of cable. And yes, the iPod controls work through the head unit, similar to using a CD changer. Except my iPod has like 1000+ CDs.

Looks good. I am curious to see how yours works.

I have an IVA-D310 with the ipod interface. I have a Gen2 Ipod and 2 of things happen

1) The ipod dies after about 10 days. Its supposed to charge but I dont think it does a good job.

2) how fast can you scroll through songs? Every time I scroll from 1 cd to another the entire screen has to refresh and build the list - like its going back to the ipod for the list everytime.

From what I have seen, the Ipod full speed is the same - just intergrated.

How is it?

Install looks good though.

From the little bit that I played with it the search feature seemed pretty good. You can search throught the playlists, albums, artists, or songs. It gets a little time consuming with 2600 songs on my iPod, but it's rather easy and the scrolling was pretty quick. I'll post more about it as I get more time to play with it, but so far I am extremely satisfied.

I'm not too sure about the charging. I think it might charge the iPod for an additional 20 mins after you shut the car, but I disconnected it tonight so I don't wake up to a dead battery. I'll have to look more into that.

Thats cool. I have a 40 GB Ipod about half full. I gave up on it and just play Mp3 DVDs on my unit. It scrolls really fast.

ive got the same Alpine quick connect- i love it, works perfect- and with the alpine touch pad, it scrolls super quick- similar to the ipod wheel technology- even better cause my nano is black, so it can be hidden in the cubby. it charges while its hooked up, and will turn off when you open your door so the battery wont die. though, if you leave your ipod hooked up in -35F weather overnight, it doesnt start right away the next morning lol.

What model Alpine do you have? This Full Speed cable is something new for 2006. It just came out a couple of days ago. Do you have the external box connected to your deck?

Yeah, I have the new for '06 CDA-9856. Instead of the $100 box all I had to buy was a $30 cable.
I'm not sure about the charging part though. I left it connected and opened the door, but the iPod didn't shut off, so I just disconnected it for tonight until I figure out how the charging works.

This setup will NOT work with the Audiophile 6disc system from the factory, correct? I have the PIE adapter and it works good but would love the controls throught the H/U. I have heard that the PIE2 adapter will NOT work on factory 6disc H/U either...
