Angry I seriously need help! Oil filter welded on by sicko at Ford plant.

I can't get the f'ing oil filter off this thing. I've read the thread about this. I've tried everything. Now I have a brand new 41K truck in my driveway that won't hold oil cuz the filter is torn to sheet. What the hell am I going to do? The screwdriver method resulted in tearing the filter to hell. It didn't turn a bit. My arms are all beat to hell trying to get leveage on that GD thing. FYI, the air intake comes off with just one bolt. You can get a good look at the filter from the top that way, but it's at a crazy angle that makes the fan a hinderance to leverage. This sucks ***! I'm tring to turn it counter clockwise. Is that right?

What is there to say if you read everything and tried everything?

You need one of these minus the hideous looking gal.

Call the dealership and tell them to fix it.

Come on man she looks like she has some junk in the trunk. It may be the type of junk you want to give to goodwill though.

Wow.......

Forget any kind of filter wrench at this point.

Can you get a pair of channel locks on the threaded area?

If not, tow it to the dealership, and let them fix it.

The first one is always the hardest to pull off. Thats just the nature of the fatory.

Ive got a wrench that is like a slip ring, and the more torque you put on it the tighter the grip is around the filter. I think i got it from Wally world for 5-10 bucks. Hadnt had any problems since.

I dont know if they fixed the clearance issues that they had with my body style trucks, but you can gain a ton of acsees to it by turning the steering wheel all the way to the left.

If none of that call the dealer and make them come tow you, or agree to pay for the tow. If its a factory defect then its their responsiblity. It should be under that lifetime roadside service, out of gas package you get when you buy a truck ( well atleast mine did in 03)

Good luck and keep us updated.

I think he is referring to this:

That's probably what I would try.

Whoever suggested going at it with a screwdriver is not who I would listen to for any advice.
Although it is too late now, NAPA sells a ring style filter wrench that you can use a 3/8" ratchet driver on. I wrestled with my filter the first time, went and got one of these and got it turning first try.
Probably the only way you are going to get the thing of now is cut the threaded part of the filter in a couple of places.

I don't know if you can get to it at the right angle on these trucks, but I've had success in other cases with using a chisel or a large, long screwdriver on the filter crimp bead right by where the filter seats to the engine. Use the tool and a hammer to make enough of a dent in the bead to give you a place for the tool to dig into, then put the tip of the tool in a position to "put a spin" on the filter, and tap on the tool. It's harder to explain than it is to do (if you can get the right angle on it). You might have to do this multiple times as the place you started with creeps out of range when the filter starts to spin.

If this is too confusing let me know and I'll try to explain better - Maybe others know whether there is room enough to make this work, and what the best angle of approach might be.

GOOD LUCK! I used 15" long channel-locks on mine the first time, but the filter housing wasn't shredded.

Not much you can do now except stay at it, you’ll eventually get it off

Act like "Michael Jackson" and just "Beat It". Seriously you are going to keep at it until it breaks loose. I like using the Fram brand filter, they have a grip surface on them, which is easy to take off and on by hand.

if the filter is not damaged near the engine, you may still be able to use a metal strap wrench, you should have no problem with one of those.

May want to soak the gasket with some slickem. I like kroil or wd40 might be enough to free up the gasket and get it off for you.
