Advice on dash problem
The grey you see is part of the dash assembly and is indeed all one peice. If you get your way, it will require complete dash removal and replacement. If the same tech does the changeout, it is likely the same quality of work will =same results. Written banter about tech working against clock, managers looking over shoulders, time is money is an EXCUSE FOR HAL*******ED work. We all know the reasons why they do this but it's not the answer. SO how much money did the dealer make doing a simple job and then redoing the job again? Only this time we have major labor costs (that the dealer should eat), an unhappy customer and parts that should have never been destroyed. It is a cycle that can be avoided easly and the service departments create. Wonder how they would feel if a customer gave the dealer a bill for inconveinance and lost time on a service job that should have been done right the first time?

The truck has 125 miles on it (half from having this work done) and that "new" feeling is already gone.

Trying to repaint that in the truck would be a nightmare. You would have to repaint the whole panel. The finish would not be as resitant to scratches etc further down the road. It is also difficult to match interior colors sem and dba are the pretty much the only choices for int paint. If you open the ash tray on the bottom you can grab the bezel with your fingers and pull it off from the bottom without using any tools especially where they did.
