Advice on dash problem

Ok... I picked up my new truck (lariat scab) last week, on the way home I realized my sub for the audiophile wasn't working. I called the dealer and they told me no problem bring it in we'll make it right. I bring it in and I'm told the radio needs to be swapped out, my heart sank 'cause the reason I got the audiophile was I didn't want to get in to ripping the dash apart for audio installs.

They swap radios still doesn't work, turns out there was a amp ground in the back that wasn't hooked up at the factory. They put the old radio back in and call to tell me the truck is all set. I pick it up and the nightmare begins (dash pics--these are large beware). Obviously someone was a little rough with the removal.

Where I'm in need of some advice is what is my next step? Do I have them try to repair the existing piece? Do I try to have them replace the whole piece (those that are familiar will realize this is a major part of the dash)? If I do have it replaced do you think it will introduce a bunch of new problems? Should I just "suck it up" and live with it? If anyone has first hand experience with this part removal/install let me know what you think. Thanks.

Complain, and ask to take it to a different dealership for repair.

I've taken my radio surround out over a dozen times, no marks at all.

This is one seriously incompetent helper that they are using.
He will be the same clown that does the replacement.

He will also be angry at you...

You need to take it to somewhere competent and get this fixed. If he actually screwed up the dash it is a pretty expensive piece.

there is no way i would live with that. i would make them fix it at their expense, whatever it takes. if they dont like it remind them that a dash is cheaper than them replacing your truck..

good luck and keep us posted

Man I would be pissed off.. What the hell were they thinking? I'd immediately express my concern with the service manager and see what they offer to you.
Hope it all works out for ya.

I'm not so sure I would take it somewhere else.

First of all most shops are not interested in fixing a problem created by another. Your issue is not a warranty issue. It is a competence issue. If it was a warranty issue I suspect another dealer could possibly take it on but, even then, I suspect they would send you back to where you came from because the original work is already in the system.

Secondly, if you complain to the right person the right way at the first place, I suspect the MOST competent person will be the one working on your truck the next time. If the dealer fixes it they will need to pay for the parts themselves. That is not the popular response when it comes to their bottom line.

Some shops will let stuff go out their door knowing that it should probably not, but let it go on the bet that the customer may or may not return to complain. It costs them nothing to let it go and they only need to pay if it returns... I suspect many people don't take stuff back.

I say take it back.

Hells no!!!! That’s unacceptable! I've gotten behind my radio to install a P.I.E. adapter and a Drive + Play. Those marks are inexcusable. There's no need to use anything but your fingers to pull that bezel off. Yes, it's a bit hard in some places but nothing else is needed.

If I were you I'd get the service manager AND dealership manager involved. It wouldn't hurt to get the information of a regional manager as well. At the very least they need to replace that dash.

WOW, I'm still in shock...

HOLY ***** Take it back right now. There is no need to pry on that piece. It comes off with only your hands. I have had my dash off several times. Like more than 6 for sure. I don't have one single mark on mine. Even if for some odd reason it needed pryed off then at least they should have used some commen sense. If that was my truck it would be getting a new dash., Or at least some repair work done on it. As long as you couldn't tell afterwards that is.

Take it back, get them to replace all marked places. And either make sure someone else at the dealership does the work, or if it is the same guy, watch him do the work. After he finishes the work to your expectations, take him with you for a test drive...and beat his ****.

I agree. Call the Ford Costumer service line and make the complaint. That way it will be on record. Then talk it back to the dealership. Do this as soon as possible... Like 7am tomorrow morning.

Good luck bro..be persistant. It will work out. They'll fix it.

This is what defines a good trim guy from a bad one. I'd complain; properly removed, there will be no marks or damage to the dash.

Man oh man they really butchered your dash big time. I took mine apart a couple of times to run wires for my radar detector and never had a problem. Your dealer needs to make that right IMO
