Yeah, I took mine off this morning to install my radio. Not a scratch!

Ain't so much that. Dealer techs for the most part get paid by commission - the faster your truck gets out the door, the faster the guy can pull another one in and get to work on it, the faster he makes money. Problem is, detail oriented areas like glass and trim (amongst other areas) aren't really well suited to git-r-dun-with-the-quickness-work. Type A personalities need not apply here.

Sure, you've pulled your dash apart several times with no problems, as have I and several others on here, but then again, you weren't doing it against a clock with service advisors breathing down your neck because customers were breathing down their necks, with the thought in the back of your head that "I've gotta make some money, my mortgage is due at the end of the week, so's the car note, and the utilities, kids gotta eat too, etc." I ain't justifying the above job by no means, just saying, two sides to the coin.

True but you have to remember anyone can pull that dash off faster with their hands than with a pry bar.

"So maybe I should fix it the right way so I don't get repremanded"

May be a three sided coin.

It's easier to me with a pocket screwdriver carefully applied in discrete (keyword - discrete, not out in the open like numbnut that mangled that guy's dash) places. Less chance of breaking the trim or the clips.

What's to say anything will happen to him? What's to say he really cares? There's lots of politics going on at the dealer that most people aren't aware of...but that's going beyond the scope of this thread.

Thanks for all the responses guys. I have an appointment with the service manager next week so he can get a look at it. I got to admit when you see it in person it doesn’t look as bad as the pictures but the camera doesn’t lie.

I guess I’m going to ask for that whole dash piece to be replaced. Quintin I’ve seen your post before and I trust your judgment. Do you think that whole piece could be replaced fairly trouble free without further damage? Thanks again for all your responses.

b.t.w. So far I really like this dealer. The service manager says he wants to do whatever it takes to make this right so I’m optimistic. I’ll keep you posted.

I think the grey surround on either side of the center stack is part of the whole instrument panel assembly, it's not servicable seperately. I'll find out tomorrow if I remember when I get to work. A really, really good interior shop might be able to touch them up, but it's tough to say. Ultimately, the dash may have to be replaced.

If you remember that would be great. Thanks again!

Looks like Ford highered a car stereo thief. Good for stealing radios, not good for replacing them or for your truck! Those picures make me sick......NOT COOL.....please update us on your situation and I hope there is justice!!!

Id just drive him somewhere and leave him.

I had one stupid little problem with my truck and i just called the dealer that sold it to me first. He got a hold of the sales manager and service manager right off the bat so i wouldnt get the run around from any 18 year old's at the help counter (not that all kids are dumb, im just 21 myself). Im sure he saved me about an hour on the phone trying to find the right people to talk to. If your dealer seemed helpful I would talk to him first. He relies on you to tell your friends how great he is and for you to come buy another truck from him. He will try to do whatever it takes to make you happy.

That's why I avoid the dealer like the PLAGUE. Bring that back, threaten to call Ford, consumer affairs, whoever it takes. That is TERRIBLE on a brand new vehicle!!
Maybe you could have it repaired at an independent shop (the RIGHT way) A QUALITY shop may be able to paint the dash, which would probably come out better than the dealer replacing the whole thing(they'll probably screw up something else!!!!!)

Yea that is my biggest fear. I don't want to get it back and have even more issues. This is why I was wondering how involved it is to replace the damaged piece. Unfortunately (for me) I don't think many people replace this part.

The truck has 125 miles on it (half from having this work done) and that "new" feeling is already gone.

outch!!! That hurts! but the part of the dash thats scrached is connected to the hole dash itself. You would have to replace the entire dash to get a new part in there that the worker scratched.

If it was me, I'd see how well they can paint it if any. I wouldn't want a Ford dealer ripping my dash all the way out and replace it, it won't be like new, you will have nicks here and there still, and I'm sure rattles in the dash.
