No! Mine is averaging about 11.5 MPG.

Mine goes in tomorrow for throttle lag problems for the second time. Hopefully I will get a re-flash this time. I've read here that the re-flash does help somewhat with the mpg's.

Regards!

Ummm . . . . reset the MPG as I drove out of the dealership with 6K on it and now it is what it is.

I have an 04 XLT Reg Cab 4.6L 3.55 and when I brought it home it had 14k miles on it and I got 16 mpg on the way home all highway. Since then I have been getting 12 mpg maybe 13 if Im lucky, mostly city though. And I keep my rpms under 2500.

So with the tuner is it possible to get better gas mileage with better performance? I know they prolly contradict each other. but is it possible? Because my 4.6L feels sluggish at take off at times...

The mileage will get better as the engine breaks in. My first tank I got 12.5 mpg and at 7,000 miles before putting the 20s on I was getting a consistant 15-15.5
mpg city. After the 20s it stayed around 13 mpg. Now with the gear change and the Bamachips XCal2, we'll see how the gas mileage is. Judging from the gauge and how many miles I have gone, it seems that mileage has improved. I'll let ya'll know on that one.

I get the same

Hey bigec2004, I have the same setup as you with an 8 food bed. When the weather was warm I was getting 14.5 mpg. Now that it's winter, I only get about 11.5 mpg.

I have an FX4 that consistently gets 16 mpg on backroads to work and back. A few trips on the highway got around 18. I am noticing that most of the 4.6's (not all) are getting worse mileage than the 5.4's. I am guessing that the difference is the weight of the truck as a function of ponies-to-pounds. Just my .02.

huh.. not sure what the difference is between my SCAB 4x2 and the rest of yours .. but im averaging 17.7 mpg i can get 19+ if i did a constant 80-85..

when i accelerate i usually dont have to go above 1750rpms to keep up with the person next to me.. and i dont hit 2k rpms till about 74 mph..
and i can do 90mph at 2500rpms

stock 235 75 R17 wheels
3.55 LS
5.4L
mods

Cat back SI/DO flowbastard

2006 4X4 XLT 5.4L Scab. 1st tank all highway 75mph just under 2000 rpms I got 17.25 mpg. 2nd tank same mph/rpms I got 17.5. Now I'm in the city driving mode and the 3rd tank was 15.5 mpg. Not a bad start for a 4X4 but my 2004 5.4L Screw 4X2 got 19.5 mpg on the same highway and mph/rpm range.
I can deal with this mpg. Texas doesn't have winter gas.

I've got basically the same truck as you just in an '04 model and I average around 17-20 combined city/highway.

Bigec2004,
Just for comparisons sake I have a 2006 Lariat SCrew with 1400 miles on it. I have an ARE LSII hard tonneau (noted for added weight) with the factory 20 inch wheels, 5.4L, and 3.55 LS. I’m pulling around 13mpg in the city and 18 on the highway.

I can't even remember the last time I checked or even cared what my gas mileage is...All I know is this is a big truck and it drinks gas. But man is it worth it, i don't expect it to do well on gas.....If i cared, I would trade her in on a focus.......

figuring the mpg

Well for starters when i bought the truck they filled it up before i drove off. Then i drove it untill the light came on and maybe drove another 5 miles. So then i just divided the mileage by the size of the tank......but what is this i hear of resetting your cpu by disconnecting your battery? i had the terminal off a day or 2 after i got it shurely that wouldnt be the reason?
