Overhead rail storage/ebay

I was just wondering if anyone here has bought their overhead storage units off of ebay or another soarce rather than from the dealer. I'm looking for the exta 2 bins of storage space, but don't wanna get raped by dealer prices. Thanks...

WOW!...now that's a bargain. I'd be happy just to get them under $100.

Search EBAY using the following: +ford +(f150,f-150) +(rail, bin, bins, overhead)

Take out the +(f150,f-150) portion to get even more results just in case the seller was too stupid to put in the truck model.

I was the "lucky" one.

I purchased two from sepreate sellers, ending up at approximately $65/each including shipping. Both were good transactions, and while I could have gotten them cheaper, I think I did okay since the timing was right, wasn't sitting on it for a long toime to get them...

I'm disappointed by the lack of support from Ford on the rails. I keep hoping for new add ons but nothing yet.

Look for the package deals (Metro, Freeway, and some other one.) As a package it was more reasonable from one of the internet Ford parts places. Check out the packages and get the one that best matches what you want for inserts.

I really wanted the CD holder insert (cool F150 logo) and a first aid kit. Your interest may vary.

As posted by another forum member on another thread:

http://www.brandmotion.com/products/...-railport.html

Company named exclusive distributor of Railport aftermarket modules

Jan. 17, 2006 -- Johnson Controls recently named Ann Arbor, Michigan-based Brandmotion, LLC as the exclusive distributor of aftermarket modules for the company's Railport(TM) Vehicle Personalization System. The Railport technology, which debuted several years ago, is an automotive overhead system that allows consumers to customize their vehicle interiors via the attachment of various modular devices. A broad selection of modules can be used with Railport - everything from DVD players, MP3 players and Bluetooth wireless systems to first-aid kits and extra storage bins.

"The Railport Vehicle Personalization System -- which now is integrated as an original-equipment feature on several vehicle models -- delivers high value for both automakers and vehicle-buyers," said Byron Foster, group vice president - Interiors, North America for Johnson Controls. "Brandmotion brings strong aftermarket capabilities to the table, and -- as a result -- our Railport system will continue to grow, both in visibility and market impact."

Brandmotion develops, markets and distributes highly integrated automotive accessory solutions for consumers via the aftermarket. The company focuses on multiple distribution channels, including auto dealers, other distributors and expeditors, retail stores, Internet and catalog sales.

Current Railport modules available from Brandmotion include the AutoVision® Rear Seat Entertainment System from Johnson Controls; BlueConnect® Hands-Free Cellular Phone System, also from Johnson Controls; Motorola two-way radio system; Valeo air-purification system; and Valeo Thermeo®. Also available are a CD/DVD holder; dual sunglasses module; first- aid kit; premium cedar custom cigar humidor; storage bin; and tissue holder.

Does any one know if the dvd will work on 2004 supercrew with the rail system. I do not see where it would tie in to the audio of the truck

Gordo nice post thanks...

I'm looking at the Nav system (not rail related) and the Ipod controls.

I was curious though...do the 05-06 models have powered rails? I have the 04 with the DVD so I have power in the headliner but I thought the new models had powered rails....

Thanks

It's my understanding that Ford now has a pre-wire OPTION (not standard) for the rail system. So, you'd need to make sure it's part of your truck before buying it. Otherwise, you have to get the right aftermarket stereo installer (or the dealership) to wire it for you.

Yeah, this company isn't ready to sell these new bins/toys yet. They've just announced that they have the contract for selling the units, etc. I'm sure they're still getting all of the paperwork in order with their resellers, dealerships, etc.

exactly.

I've been quiet for quite some time while we worked to make this a reality.
I will keep the board posted when you can actually order the components.

06+ does not have powered rail. they do have the 12V power cable above the first bin. the key to DVD is the prep kit.
We are working ( still ) to get an aftermarket harness for DVD.
