Road Force Balance - Tire Questions

Didn't get any response in the Wheel and Tire Section

*****

I have a 2005 Lariat with 18 inch tires with 8000 miles so it was time for rotate and balance. I took it to the local shop (friend of mine) and had everything done. First time I got out on the highway after the rotate and balance I noticed a vibration that I had never had before. Took it back to the shop and they checked all the tires and then had me look at the left front time while on the balancer. It took more weight then all the other tires and also had some wobble while on the machine. Proceed to take it back to the dealership. They road forced all the tires and said everything fixed. Now the problem, the truck rides great, maybe even better than before, but the tires seem much louder than before (sounds like a whine).

Anyone have any idea or experienced the same issue? Could I have a bad tire?

Thanks!

I haven't experienced the excessive tire noise since the dealership road force balanced mine.

I'm wondering how much extra it is to have the things road force balanced though. If it needs it once, it's going to need it every balance... and I'm generally not in the habit of taking one back to the dealership to have that done.

I would be money ahead to just get new rubber now instead of dealing with these junk General tires for whatever their life expectancy turns out to be. Which I'm guessing isn't going to be much with the problems everyone seems to be having from them.

I was wondering the exact same thing about the Road Force Balance each time. The dealership didn't charge me anything, but I bet it will be the same issue at 16,000.

My tires are the Goodyear ATS. Air pressure is at 40 psi, I was thinking of trying 35 psi and see how it does.

Road force balancing is a different process than weight balancing. Each tire naturally has a high spot and each wheel naturally has a low spot, even if neither are actually "out of round." Since no round wheel or tire is going to be an absoultely prefect circle road force balancing matches the high spot of the tire with the low spot of the wheel making the imperfection in the wheel and tire assembly less noticable.
