? on true duals............

OK. I'm going to eventually do an exhaust on my truck, but I searched and didn't come up with any results I was looking for. I know I want duals like the lightning style in front of the rear tire, but would it be beneficial to truck performance to make it a true dual setup? Are true duals really all that louder? I haven't had the experience with exhaust on trucks or v8's so I am hoping to learn from you guys' experiences. Thanks in advance.

I'm not positive, but I don't think true duals are all that much louder. And unless you're building a race car they probably aren't necessary. Plus the added cost of having to buy another muffler... I'd just do SIDO.

True duals should flow better for better performance . My mustang had duals so I do think there is a performance advantage over a singles splitting into two pipes

True duals=Performance, it's a truck lol not meant for high flying speeds! I'd get si/do if you want the loudest muffler si/do try IMCO at www.grabthepower.com they have single chamber si/do and it's the loudest muffler that I know about!!

I'm not looking for loudness, but since I'm going to have an exhaust made, figured a true dual setup would be better. Never tried this before, so keep em coming.

Okay your considering True Duals, but your going to keep your cats correct?

I've talked with a few exhaust shops before I got my set-up and said they wouldn't take cats off and it basically would be the same sound wether you have one or two mufflers.

Well i think i can tell ya what you want. I had a thread going a few weeks ago but ill start all over.

I got my truck dualed out at the exaust shop and he ended up doing a true dual from the cats back. He ran 2.5'' pipe back after cutting the factory Y pipe off. So it was a true dual with the cats and NO muffler....It was loud, very loud but sounded good. Had alot of kackle but it was real mean.

After a while of that i decided to put a muffler on so i wouldnt wake up half the neighborhood when i got on it. So i bought a DI/DO Magnaflow muffler and had them install it. It seemed quiet at first until i got used to the change of sound. I LOVE the sound now. It has a built in X pipe which gives it a very distinctive sound. I think you would be satisfied. Any questions feel free to ask...

Hey trytokeepup, thanks form the info. That's just about what I was trying to find out. Anyway, how is the sound in the cab? I know the style I'm looking to do is lightning out the side and figured true duals would be better and less restrictive. I have looked at different mufflers and have seen the type you have installed. I am eventually going to have this done. I can't wait!

At cruising speeds cant hear it too much. Thats one of the main reasons i got the muffer. It doesnt drone or anything. I really only hear it when i start to crawl up hills and it pulls the engine down a bit. But its very tolerable. Sounds great when i get on it inside the cab. I havnt heard it yet from outside since the muffler but im hoping to find some trustworthy person to drive it haha.

thats nice man. i kinda wanna go with that same setup.. cut off the y pipe huh.. hhmm.. i was thinking si/do and dump it before the back akle, but i want to keep some sort of backpressure... did you feel any gains??..

Hi.

Actually, you want to preserve exhaust gas velocity and effective cylinder scavenging. Backpressure is not a consideration in preserving low-end torque while enable an increase in midrange/topend power.

If you spend some time researching this via Search, you'll see what I'm referring to. There is a lot of BS mingled in with th facts, but one thing stands out: true duals look great & can sound awesome, but be prepared to suffer some loss in low end; some notice it more than others. And yes - mandrel-bent/constant diameter pipes are a must.

Cheers
Grog

Actually i didnt notice any loss at all. Didnt feel much of a gain but its exhaust. So you loose or gain 5 horsepower....you wont feel that. Heck after i got the muffler on i had my truck reflashed just to get the latest updates and it runs like a rocket now. I havnt noticed any low end loss. It lays just as long as black marks as it did before.
