God My Truck Is Retarded!

I get in to take my dad to my brothers house to check the hot water heater right? I get there alls fine we get back in i crank up and the dang engine service light or w/e is on and stays on! so i get home and it's still on so i look in the book and my dads like it's prolly just the weather cause it's been raining all day and crap what do ya'll think? it's either "bad gas, water in gas, or gas cap not on correct" so my dad just said drive it some 2mr and if it's still on we'll take it to ford! ahhhh bob sageT!

If the check engine MIL is on, it has set a hard code that is related to emmisions. Anything that turns on that light has to do with something affecting emmisions in some sort of way, whether it be from your tailpipe or from your fuel tank. A loose gas cap will turn that thing on and I believe there are a lot of drive cycles with it tight that are required before it will go back off, or a trip to the dealer will turn it off, but it could be MANY other things.

You could always remove the negative battery terminal and turn the head light switch on for a few mins to dump the code.

I thought this didn't work on OBD-II. It should store the code until the requirements are met for it to turn the light off. These new systems are like your personal computer and store the information, power or no power.

You turned it TILL it clicked? Or you turned it AND it clicked. If you had to turn it at all before it clicked then that was your problem. Even a slightly loose cap will set a code for a leak in the fuel evap system.

You might have burnt up a muffler bearing.

Try to get the upgraded chrome roller muffler bearings. They are worth several more horsepower.
