Hi Jim;

Yes Win98SE has serious issues with USB support, depending on driver/app vintage and on what platform the software was developed.

There is, however, some hope. A number of patches contained in an unofficial 'service pack' for Win98SE is out there:

http://www.usbman.com/win98seusbguide.htm

This was found via Google in a quickie search - there is a lot on the Web concerning this issue, and this link has a wealth of info and things to try.

You may want to try this route before doing anything else, or if a computer upgrade isn't in the cards right now. your other idea about using a friends WinXP box for this is also fine.

Good luck!

Cheers
Grog

Anyone running Win 2K? I'm getting the following error when running setup:
Error 1931: The Windows Installer service cannot update the system file C:\WINNT\system32\ntoskrnl.exe because the file is protected by Windows. You may need to update your OS for this program to work correctly.

Shenanagans...I'm all updated. I hit OK and it finishes. The app launches (v1.01.0022) but not sure I trust using it now, but I can't hold off trying.

I'm 90% Mac at work and home, just keep this Win box around for non Mac apps.
