Transmission Service

Has anyone gone to the dealer to have their tranny serviced? What did it cost? Did they replace the filter too or just change the fluid through recirculation?

Sorry so brief. Im at work and im about to get busted! :o

How many miles did you have on the truck?

I thought the service was supposed to be done at 30,000 miles and I know I am not the only one with that mileage.

I wished more folks would reply to the thread. Maybe I will get more hits tonite when everyone gets home.

Or maybe I should put "Edge" in the title

3,5XX when they picked it up yesterday morning. That's right... no zero after that three.

They're swapping it out to solve the notorious "vibe" that so many of us have. Supposedly they traced it to the transmission and are swapping the whole thing instead of trying to ID any specific part causing it.

Also supposed to solve the intermittent "clunk" I have experienced.

We shall see.......

thanks for reminding me that I need to call them and see what the heck they're doing since they haven't returned my call from this morning.... that's never a good sign.

I had mine flushed at 25k. It was like $130. Since I'm at 50k now, I think I'll get this flush done outside of the dealership. I just need to find someone with the right machine. I had my explorer done for $99 at some oil change shop, but they spilled atf everywhere. Bastards! I'm never going there again.

I heard having an external filter installed wasn't a bad idea too. Anyone got input on that?

I checked at my local dealer and it is about $90. I will probably get it done soon since I over 30k.

I got the fluid changed at 30,000 and could really tell the difference between how the truck ran before and after the Penzoil flush. I drove for 2 weeks and then went to the dealorship which cost the same, and had Mercon V put in. Now the truck revs up as it used to and doesn't slip as it did with the Penzoil. P says their fluid is the same as Mercon V, but it also says it is the same as Mercon III. So how can it be both? It really had an effect on how smoothly (unsmoothly) my transmission worked.
FYI

I had the transmission fluid changed at 30000 miles and it cost me $118.00. I have noticed that it seems smoother on take off since it was changed.
