Hey all, I just finished up on getting my reverse camera in so I can take advantage of that function of my kenwood. Also you can see in my pics the little "Roush" badge I put on a week ago or so . It works pretty good, the quality is not 100% but it gets the job done. I thought and thought of a good place to mount that thing. I was going to put it over one of the reverse sensors but I didn't want to drill a hole in the bumper. It was too big to put in the handle where the lock is and I didn't feel like cutting up my painted handles either. Then I was looking at the plate and you know that area between the letters and numbers where that little dash is?.......well that's where I put it. Seems to be a good spot and really not noticeable unless you are looking for it or reading my plate. There is a big rectangular hole in the bumper right where the plate is so I had to do NO cutting on the bumper to get it to fit. I ran 2 power wires to the camera. One from the right side reverse light to trigger it whenever I went in reverse, and another from up front through a little neatly mounted switch that I can turn on and off whenever I want. I separated the 2 with a 1A diode so the reverse lights wouldn't come on when I flipped the manual switch. There are a few problems that I guess I'll have to live with. One is, that at night, the plate bulbs shine on it and produce a little bit of glare in the picture, and it messes with the light sensor. And 2, being where it is, it is very open to sunlight and that glares the crap out of the picture and turns it orangey. Other than that it works ok. Here are the pics!!

So you drilled through your license plate?

Looks like a clean install but, I'm curious as to your state's laws on something like that... just looks like another thing that a cop will have a right to write you up for a violation...

 

What about at night when the plate lights are on, does the glare kill the image?

Yes I drilled a hole in the plate!! I could always get another plate for like $20 or however much they are if needed. I seriously doubt the cops around here would care about that. You can still read the numbers with no problem. It looks a lot more noticeable when I blurred the letters out but it really isn't that bad. I think it is pretty cool where it is. A lot of the guys at work were like, that's pretty slick, I would have never thought of that.

Awesome bro You have the same HU and camera as I do. Im glad to know that mine was not the only one that looked orange/red in the bright sunlight. Nice job

 

Thats a good spot for the camera. Will have to keep that in mine when I upgrade my head unit and get a backup camera.

 

Yeah, I had looked in your gallery the other day hunting for pics of that valence and I saw your camera. Yours has a nice chrome ring though, mine is black. The sun kills the view! It is funny because anytime you can actually see the sun with the camera, it is a black dot and everything around it is orange and glared.....wierd.
