Completely off topic, but I just wanted to say that my previous car, a 2001 Hyundai Elantra, took about 10-15 minutes for the gauge to read "full" after I filled up. Really pissed me off.

I was having a problem where after using a quarter tank or so the gauge would occaisionally rise back to full, then drop down again. I took it to the dealership and was told that the winter gas is leaving deposits on the fuel gauge sending unit causing it to read erraticaly. Apparently there is a tsb for this but ford does not have a fix yet. I was also told that chevron techron fuel system cleaner is recomended to clean out the deposits, and if after using that the gauge is still messed up, then they will replace the sending unit assembly. Hope this helps.

The fix for me was to take the key out of the ignition while fueling. My truck did that the first time I fueled up after burning through the full tank the dealer sent me away with, and the tech said " simply turn off engine and remove the key" it has never done it since. almost two years now.

At home I tried bouncing up and down on the trailer hitch thinking that the float was stuck or something. Nothing I could do would make any effect on the guage. Only time corrected the problem. After driving around abit the guage slowly climbed until it reached full. It was kind of funny watching my gas guage steadly climb while going down the road.

I just did the same thing, had to look twice at the gas pump. The neighbors think I'm nuts for jumping up and down on the hitch. We'll see what happens in a little bit I guess.

My 250 Diesel did it today. It was the first time I had ever left the key in, turned to accessory position so the radio would stay on. I guess it will fix itself. That's kind of cool.
