Not sure if that one lights up. Maybe asinatra can chime in since he has one. Standard protocol is key in the ignition, on position, then push start. All there is to it. My S2000 one lit up in the Miata.

A start button would be cool but seems a bit gimmiky if you have to turn the key AND push the button as opposed to just turning the key. It would be cool if you could just push the button but I don't think that's possible or plausable. Doesn't mean I won't do it if it doesn't seem too difficult

The Viper SRT push button start looks sweet. SHouldn't be that expensive. I can take a picture if you need it.

A.) No, my old man has one and doesn't live too far so I can get better pics tomorrow.

B.) No it doesn't light up but I think it looks better than the S2000

I will be using this button for my Mustang

This is the one I used. Got it off ebay. Does not light up. I didn't want a red light to look at after dark.

Just wired it inline of the Red/Light Blue wire from the ignition switch. Pretty easy. I put it where the coin holder was.

Hitting the start button with engine running

Hey guys, I just wanted to chime in to help you guys a bit. There seems to be some concern about accidently hitting the start button when the truck is running. I don't know about your trucks, but my 05 FX4 will not engage the starter if the motor is already running (I know from experience). Try it, you will find that your accessories will temporarily kill (just like they do when you are starting the engine), but the starter will not engage. I'm telling you, these trucks are SMART. As long as you are just rerouting the start circuit to a separate switch, the ECM will still overide the start command when the engine is running.

ford141 thanks a lot that make feel better about doing this. to answer your question Crstfr I am under the impression that you do need the key. I won't do the mod unless you have to use the key cuz that is just plain out well a lil risky. awoldog can you help us out a lil show us some pics and tell us the basics?

Yes you need the key to be in the start position. The starter button does nothing unless it is in 'Run'. Mine also does nothing when already running. If you wire it correctly, it is very safe.
