2005+ Super Duty "TowCommand" in F-150???

Has anyone attempted to install the In dash TowCommand system from the new Super Dutys in an F-150. It would be a perfect fit in the wasted panel where the Cig Lighter is. It is my understanding that this system ties into the actual brake hydraulic system instead of just using the brake light circuit so I don't know if it can be done. I heard it was co-developed by Tekonsha who makes the Prodigy and Primus controllers. Sure would be slick if we could pull it off..especially with those four "Aux" switches that could be used for all sorts of goodies.

What exactly does the tow command package do.

Even if it was tied into the hydraulic brakes I think it could be done. Thats how the old brake controllers were. IM not sure it would be worth the expense unless you could get one out of a wrecked Super Duty.

Quick answer is no, it will not work. If we install Tow Command on a Super Duty that did not come factory with it we have to change the master cylinder also. A Super Duty master cylinder will not work on a F150.

You should see the wiring harness needed to install the upfitter switches alone! That's the 4 switched in the picture next to the brake controller.

I found this on another Ford Truck Website :

Installing TowCommand on 05 F-Series:

There is now a kit available to install TowCommand trailer braking system on truck that were not originally equiped at the factory. For diesel and all dual rear wheel applications use kit 5C3Z-19H332-BA. For gasoline trucks with single rear wheels use kit 5C3Z-19H332-AA.

Now if I can justify the $400 plus price I may go for it. A also talked with a Tech at Tekonsha and they felt it could be adapted without the "hydraulic" issues, but couldn't (wouldn't) elaborate because it is Fords "product". Basically the hydraulic sensor sends an electric signal to the controller same as a "normal" controller uses the signal from the brake lights...

Interesting...here is a comment from someone who installed just the "Upfitter" switches", of course this was in an SD that it was designed for.

"Mine came with the controller, and it is WONDERFUL!!!!!!!! I added the upfitter switches and they were plug and play. Installed the needed wiring harness for the switches, the switch assy. and plugged into the relay panel all in abaout 10 minutes. The pre-existing 2005 harness plugs into the break controller and the controller pops right into the slot in the dash. Check with your dealer to make sure the harness is common, with or without the tcb. If it is, order it, install it and have the most controlled trailer breaks you've ever used."

At first I thought the Brake Controller and "Aux Switches" (Upfitter switches) were combined as one, but evidently they are not. This could make the Brake controller even easier to install and still have room left to keep the cig lighter or whatever else we wanted to add there.

928gt,

sorry to be a little off topic, but where did you get that bull bar type bar from. I thought I saw one of those on ebay about a year ago, but never saw it again. It is chrome plated or just SS?
Truck looks good!!

I looked at all brands I could find and this one caught my eye. It is 100% Polished 304 Stainless Steel and completely Tig welded (not bolted together like most name brands) and has the F-150 Logo cutout in the cross bar. FYI, it is not the fake "Stainless Steel" some companies sell, I am in the automotive aftermarket busniess and this is real 304 SS (I make some Porsche products out of 304 SS).

I don't know what the brand is, it seems some guys in Florida are making or getting those and I found them on Ebay. He said he had a bunch of them ready. It comes with a "skid plate" but I removed mine as it looks cleaner without it to me.

Here is a link to one of their current auctions

http://cgi.ebay.com/Push-Nudge-Bull-...QQcmdZViewItem

They seem to be nice guys and were willing to let me return it if it didn't fit the aftermarket front on my FTX.

THANKS!
