04 Vibration Solution & Rough Idle?
04 Vibration Solution & Rough Idle?
Finally got my 04 XLT SuperCrew back from the dealer again for 'fixing' the vibration issue. It is of course still not fixed but the dealer told me that Ford acknowledge that the problem exists and that there are serveral 'testbed' F150's around the country right now that have been fixed and that Ford are verifying the fix works.
Has anyone else heard this or can anyone corroborate the story? At this point I'm figuring the dealer is trying to feed me another line of BS in an effort to keep my truck out of his service bay, they have done all the 'fixes' on it to this point and it still vibrates & shudders like crazy. Ford Customer Service admitted that engineering are working the vibration issue but there is no timeline and told me to return the vehicle to the dealer to have it looked into again. For the fifth time.
On top of this, is there a fix for the rough idle condition? Idle condition on this truck is horrible, almost sounds like the engine is scavenging for fuel but the dealer insists everything is normal and tells me there is nothing that can be done for it. I love this truck, bought it new but so far it has had a horrendous service history; 10 visits to the dealer for 16 different problems, everyone is advising me to talk to the BBB Autoline, but if a fix for the idle condition exists and there truly is a vibration fix around the corner I would keep the truck as that would hopefully close out the last of the major issues.
Any info on either issue is appreciated!!!!!!!

There just seems to be excuse after excuse for the problems but no actual solutions to them. The dealership has been helpful and my service advisor is a really great guy but they seem to have their hands tied by Ford to some extent and the excuses for the problems keep flowing.
Honestly I just want the truck fixed but with its service history and current round of problems documented, Ford Motor Co. don't really seem to care. Being told "That's what the warranty is for, if you have any further problems take it back to your dealer. They are qualified to fix it". for the fifth time on several of the same unresolved issues doesn't seem to be the right course of action.

If they could fix it, they would. They get paid to fix things, but if they cant find what is wrong is there anything to fix? You can't just start throwing new parts at a truck and wonder if its gonna work. I have been in service for all issues regarding rough idle and it still has not fixed my truck, reflash after reflash, a new tps sensor to a whole new throttle body. Your not a perfect person and dont expect your truck to be, it was made by humans (directly & inderictly)
The rough idle and vibration are just the most recent problems with the truck. I don't expect it to be perfect but it would be nice to go a month without a visit to the dealer. On top of the rough idle and vibration currently the 4WD is intermittently not working; dealer have been unable to duplicate.
Other issues have been, the brakes failed completely, was towed back to the dealer where they said they could find no problems, the brakes work perfectly but they replaced the master cylinder anyway? 2 window regulators, 2 radios and CV axles replaced, AC replaced and a continuous loss of alignment issue with the truck drifting go the right.
All of the above seem to be fixed for now so if I can get the vibration and idle conditions fixed then hopefully all will be good.

I took mine to the dealer today for a rough idle and the Manager road in my truck with me. YOu can feel the vibration at idle in D very easily in your back, floorboards, brake pedal, and can even SEE the seats vibrate. Its so annoying and about to drive me CRAZY!! He said he did feel it but would have to drive another F150 to compare to see if it was normal. They hooked up a diagnostic test and it showed the firing pattern was normal. Maybe the motor mounts or idle rpm or something. But it is NOT normal. Also the Scab driver door sounds like its about to rattle off. They did not have time to fix that. This truck is nothing but problems that they cant seem to fix.

I got the follow-up call from my dealer today asking if I was satisifed with the service, told them the usual story; vibration is still there, still pulls to the right. Got the usual reply: "Bring it back in and we'll look at it". Asked them if there was any further news on Ford's testbeds but they have no news on it.
As for the idle issue, they checked my motor mounts, checked idle RPM's, flashed the computer, changed the air filter(??), hooked up their little computer to the truck and said all was wonderful. This despite the fact that the service manager sat in the truck with me and watched the whole dash rattle at idle. Right now at idle in D or OD it almost feels like a harmonic effect, it is a regular loss of RPM, vibration and hesitation every 10-12 seconds.
Although it about killed me to do it, I requested the paperwork from BBB Autoline today. Not the course of action I want to go but figured I better get the papers and see what's involved.

turilla..good luck with Ford and the BBB. Ive been dealing with the rear end shudder and steering wheel vibration for some time now.Over a year. If you do a search you will find many of my posts about it. I filed my paperwork with the BBB and have had no luck up to this point. I was told Ford is sending an engineer to look at and fix my truck. Two weeks after that, I called and asked when he would be coming. They said I would get a call within a week. Its now almost two weeks later and still noe engineer, no call, no nothing but a big vibrator. I think its time I get my attorney involved. I dont want to, but my vibration is getting worse by the day, and I am getting nowhere with the BBB and Ford.
This really sucks.

BREW... Thanks for the info, I'm hoping the BBB route will drive Ford into some kind of action to fix the problems on this truck. Been dealing with the vibration and shudder issues for close to a year also, I bought the truck one year ago last week. I've already been graced by the wisdom of the Ford Engineer who says the vehicle is "performing within Ford factory specifications". Yet the service techs and service manager admit the vibration is excessive. My problem with the Ford engineer has been that the guy has never talked to me, he is never available so I get it secondhand from the dealership.
The buyback/replacement is the last thing I want to do but it looks like I'll be heading down that road.

Rough idle
Took my 04 in a couple of weeks ago for the rough idle. Really vibrated when
idling in drive. Could feel it in the brake pedal, steering wheel, etc.
They flashed the PCM and replaced the motor mounts per TSB 05-19-02.
Now the idle is extremely smooth. The tech told me that the new mounts
are definately different.
Hope this helps!

Talked to Ford again today about the vibration issue. Was told that it is not a widespread issue and that vehicles will be dealt with on a case by case basis, take them to your dealer and they will fix the problem
Makes me wonder about the previous story of testbed vehicles as mentioned by the dealer.

Well after taking mine in several times for rough idle, last night the Manager and I went for a ride so he could feel my vibration at idle in D/OD and he admitted he could feel it in his back, floor, arm rests etc. Its pretty bad but he gave me the usual bull****. He said that he thought this was normal for the truck but would have to drive another F150 tomorrow and let me know if mine is "abnormal". Well he called today and told me to get my truck in ASAP because he drove another F150 and said mine was not normal. He said he would need to keep it atleast two days. Well Im only in town this week, my truck will be in a total of atleast 3 days including yesterday, and I have no way to work.
I just hope they fix this damn vibration at idle, I will keep you all updated. Truck has been in a total of 10 times in 4 months and has 6000miles. This is unbelieveable.

Cool, hope they get it all fixed, let us know how it works out. If they go by a certain TSB then tell me which one, that way I can maybe go to the dealer again and mention addressing my idle issues under that TSB.
Mine has been in 10 times in less than a year for a bunch of problems, idle and vibration being the current major ones. That is crazy!! Even for a first model year vehicle where you might expect some problems, this is hard to stomach. Good luck with the repair.
