Tire pressure system for MY07

I know its a bit early to be talking about MY07 vehicles; but the ...

FX4, Lariat, HD all look like they will be coming with sometype of monitoring system for tire pressure.

My wifes Expy already has it...but it doesnt have sensors in the wheels like a Vette does. I was told it works through the ABS sensors to determine if one wheel is turning slightly more or less revolutions than the others. It will not tell you which wheel....it just has a light like the air bag light that comes on and the info center says "check tire pressure".

I'm not sure who told you that. According to my product knowledge training, the Expedition has a sensor mounted on each wheel that triggers the "Check Tire Pressure" warning in the Message Center on vehicles equipped with the TPMS. I know that it will not tell you which wheel, but I do know the sensors are mounted on the wheel inside each tire.

Hope the new Ford tire sensors work better than those in the Corvette. A few years ago a salesman at the Chevy dealer said he'd let me test drive a late 90's Corvette they had on the used car lot. As soon as the keys were put in the ignition, a "low tire pressure" light came on, and I thought my test drive was over. Luckily, after checking each tire we found that the pressure was actually just fine. I think I'll stick to my pressure guage if I really want to know for sure.

yes, there is a module banded to the inside of each rim. (covered by your tire) The module is banded to the rim and then "pinged". This activates the module. Then there is a signal sent to the the vehicles main computer if a tire pressure becomes low.

That would be a good idea! So far I have had a nail in my tire 3 times and driven on the tire with low pressure for a while before noticing. One of the times I drove down the street before noticing, and had to replace the tire because of damage due to driving on it. Can I get this system for an 04 SCrew? Do they make aftermarket tire pressure systems?

My wifes 05 Tahoe has them and it great, tells the pressure to every tire. I tested the system many times and its always right. If it drops past 10 pounds it tells you which tire is low on the display.

Oh great, I wonder what this will add to the sticker price. I for one would not pay if I had the choice to have the computer telling me what my tire pressure is, which is weird cause I am ususally all for gadgets and such, but really, a government regulation now....how retarded

Now if it came with an air pump, and I could control the tire pressure on the fly from the drivers seat, that would be cool.

Thats how the service manager told me they worked. So how in the hell can you overide it if you go with aftermarket rims? That was my only concern with the system.

TPMS can be deactivated with WDS or PDS scan tools.

The system sucks on SUVs, IMO. It's waaaay sensitive but not especially accurate. The sensors are built into the valve stems on Ford SUVs, not like the banded style that GM used (or uses?) on the Corvette.

That is how the sensors work for Chrysler also. (sensor in the valve)

Some 300m's came with a overhead computer that could read tire pressure. I bought one of those computers and added it to my Intrepid. I then added the 4 sensors to my tires.

They work great and are dead on. If you like getting lots of info you can actually see the pressure rise as you drive.

Chrysler has since made the tire pressure system less advanced because people were complaining that someting was wrong. Get this people would actually take the cars in for warrenty because the tire pressure was rising as they drove.

My intrepid also tells me exactly which tire is having trouble as long as all the sensors are trained properly. Very nice for those times when you drive over something. It also has a low pressure and high pressure alarms.

Sorry to ramble on guys I only did a search to see if I could add a similar system to my f-150.

These sound pretty good as a gas saving device. I'm not in favor of more Gov regs but I can see it paying for itself with many drivers. Of course for a do it yourself kind of guy it makes no sense exept as a cool gadget.

Here is a well know aftermarket version that seems to work very well. You can also get an optional display that shows all 4 tire pressures individually. They also have systems for trailers.
