Question about side exhaust with chrome wheels

Okay guys, I am ready to purchase my Magnaflow exhaust but need some important info before I do. I want to buy the catback system that exits before the rear tire. My concern is that the exhaust fumes will blemish/discolor my chrome wheel. Can anyone tell me if this is a possibility or am I worrying about nothing? Any advice is greatly appreciated…

Yes, it will. THat's why Ford changed there exhaust routing in 1998. I think this is the best looking system, but it comes at a cost. You will have to keep that rear wheel washed and polished regularly.

I haven't noticed any problems with my FX4 rims and with the Magnaflow side exit exhaust.

Go with the side exit, not only does it look better, but it is better for performance. There are less bends in the side exit compared to out the back. If I were you, I would install a true dual exhaust set up. Cut the factory y pipe and run two pipes in and two pipes out for maximum flow

Another thing to consider is that with it exiting in front of the rear wheel, it is closer to the cab therefore louder inside the cab. For this reason I would go with side exit behind the rear tire. JMHO.

as long as your engine isn't slinging oil out the pipes I don't see a problem, but it will definitely be louder in the cab and if you idle/ride with windows down you are much more likely to get a whiff of exhaust fumes inside

Thanks guys for all the responses. I have an expensive set of wheels and I would hate to ruin them. If there is a possibility, I think I will go behind the rear wheel but I will ponder over this the next couple of days. Thanks again, you guys rock

Kurious, FWIW my Magnaflow 16616 SIDO side exit has been on for a little over two weeks and 500 miles or so. I haven't detected any ill effects on the King Ranch right rear wheel. Even the inside of the tips is staying shiny.

The sound kicks a$$, too.

My butt dyno says the KR is a wee bit faster now!!!

I give it 10 out of 10. It was a super easy install...

My buddy has 97 w/ side exhaust(stock) and he said he would rotate his to make them all the same? I think if you just clean and polish regularly it will fine.
