Unhappy It's a love/hate relationship...

This is more of a vent (pardon the pun) session than anything. In the F-150 SCrew Lariat there are 6 of the new style A/C vents...I have had to replace 7 of them. Yes...ALL six of them and now I'm starting over from the top with the 7th flopping around in it's hole... It seems the lever that connects the two vent flaps has a very thin plastic surrounding the pivot point. When some idiot jumps in the truck and thinks the vents need to be 'popped' closed or open, the lever breaks at the pivot pin and thus leaves the two vent flaps...well...flapping. I am **** to the point of annoyance (according to my wife) about how my truck is treated, so she was more than worried how I would take it when she slapped the vent and broke the 7th vent... I haven't decided what she is gonna have to do to make it up to me...I'm thinking a nice coat of turtle wax might be a good start...

Might I suggest you slap these idiots as hard as they must be slapping your vents.

2 of mine are the same way. I just leave them in the open position. You cant really tell that they are even separated. When i both the truck the salesman was showing me the inside and said "look at these nice new luxury vents" and then snap. He snapped the inside brace and pushed the whole dam* setup through the whole. Nice huh

I don't see how they are breaking? My wife is rough on air vents, broke those in her ETC, broke the ones in our tracker, but not in the F-150. She bangs them open and closed a dozen or so times a day (heat flashes) and I have not had any problem at all. Are yours in very cold climates or am I missing something?

NC. All snapped in summer, and the A/C ain't that cold. Just someone trying to rush an idea into production without thinking it through. Maybe a last minute idea in design or something. I thought they would have fixed the problem by now, but the replacements are beginning to break. If it hasn't happened to yours yet...it probably will. If it never does. Consider yourself one of the lucky ones I guess.

Seems to be lots of lucky ones.
In the other 04-06 forum only one person has said theirs has broken. That runs the count to three unlucky ones that have posted total.

Which ones do you have? There are four color combinations. I am wondering if there was a bad run?
I have a set of black ones on my desk and they seem pretty robust.
Which part is breaking?

Chris

Chrome ring, satin 'flaps'. I don't know about the bad run. The one that broke this weekend was replaced in early spring. And the others have been replaced throughout a 2 year period since I've owned the truck beginning with the first month I had it which was September of '03. So I figured since they've been replaced at various different times from different dealerships in appx 1.5 year period, that it has to be the vent design, and they aren't getting any better. You may have a valid point about the color combinations though. You got me, but I'm about 7k miles from warranty end, and I wish they would fix it for good before my freebies run out....

I looked at your interior pic, yours look the same as the ones on mine to me. Plus we bought the trucks within 30 days of each other, so most likely they are the 'same' style (old).

Haven’t had any problems with them. Just about everybody that gets in the truck adjusts them, especially in the summer

build date was 9-03 Kansas City

Sounds like your "friends" need to respect your truck a little more.

Two in the front broke by the dealership while doing warranty repair work, two in the back broke by little kids feet kicking the console...Not such a problem with shoddy workmanship, just poor placement. One in the front broke by a friend who borrowed the truck, one broke by the "I dunno" fairy, and the last one broke by my wife. The only one I witnessed was the one by the wife, and it really wasn't that hard. A little better quality and it would have taken the little slap my wife gave it without a hint of trouble.

Great looking truck by the way. I'm not too partial to yellow, but it looks sharp on yours.

Thanks. I haven't done much...the wheels and tires make the truck look totally different.
