E=M....C.....wait, what was the question?

Problem with trying to pull posts out, either from the top or the bottom, is you're pulling in a direction 90 degrees from the way the post wants to come out. An easier and safer way to do this is to get an old steel rim from any number of sources, trucks, trailers, etc....and put that next to the post. Hook onto the post at the base and then to the truck, using the rim as a pivot point for the strap/chain. When you pull the rim acts as a pivot and exerts a vertical force on the post and pulls it out of the hole. In addition, should the chain snap it'll shoot up and not back towards your truck, although I always use a strap for extra safety.

Just a thought if you're determined to get that post out.

That sounds like a neat idea...are you talking about setting the rim so that it is standing up or laying on it's side???

Standing up. Of course this will only work on posts that are a reasonable size. Like Steve mentioned there, some things are just common sense.

I prefer the bucket on a front end loader and a bit of chain

If you can't get that, a high-lift jack often works.
