Oil Change Question

Hi everyone.

I know this topic has been discussed in the past and I even did a search through the forum and read all of the posts. I couold not find a good answer for my question. I do not want to start another war on which is better. I was just wondering if I use 5W-30 oil for my oil change. I took my truck to Jiffy lube and they put 5W-30 oil instead of the 5W-20 that Ford recommends. They said that it would not hurt the vehicle. But that got me thinking and I started to worry. Will 5W-30 oil be bad in the long run for my truck? Can I stick with 5W-30 oil or do I need to use 5W-20 oil from now on? Thanks for not flaming me and for the responses.

From: ???.....depends on the day
Take it back to Jiffy lube....tell them to put the correct oil in it....the manual says use 5W-20....use it...don't let the lackys tell you otherwise....

...Jiffylube most likely did not have 5W-20 in stock....thus they should have told you so....instead....they gave you what they had in stock so they could make the sale...completely disregarding you as a consumer and your vehicle....I would go back and raise hell....course, I would have raised hell right there and then.....

...if you are not one to b!tch....don't worry about the 5W-30 this time around....but don't let it happen again....

I don't understand why you'd let them put in oil wityh a velocity that Ford does NOT recommend . . .

I think he really did mean velocity. Once that heaver oil gets to moving around in there and just before it homogenizes, it has more velocity.

I'm with the rest, I use 5w 20, synthetic blend as the manual recommends. Also, Id check the dipstick. If they were that lax about the type of oil, they may not have known that the 5.4L holds 7 quarts.

Go 5w-20, and rest easy.

I use this oil.. Im sure everyone is gonna say that its crap and my engine will blow up.. but it wont...

You're fine... If you're that worried about it, then go to another oil change place next time..

DITTO.

This is exactly why I do it myself. Don't trust the lube jockeys.
