Oil Change Question
ChrisAdams & PiggNford-
Thanks guys for the helpful info. I think that with the info. you guys have given me, I will be changing the oil myself when I get to 10000 miles.
PiggNford-
I am guessing that with your explaination of the filter, I will have to screw it up a little before the rubber seal comes in contact with the seat.
Thanks again!!
PS. That is a sweet truck. I wish I would have gotten a black f150. I have the dark grey supercrew. Nice, but not as sharp as black!!!

Hmmmm....gotta go check my oil level.....just had my second oil change done. Normally I would do it myself, but first change was free, second change I figured I needed the tires rotated. I just had a plate put in my arm a couple months ago from crushing my upper arm in a dune buggy roll over accident, so I'm not quite up to wreching just yet. My receipt from the dealer says they put in six quarts of 5W20.
Well, after my last post I checked it and the oil level is over 3/4 of the way up the crosshatches on the dipstick. I don't know if it would read that high with 6 qts and having time for all of the oil to drain back into the pan or not, but my receipt clearly states 6qts and filter unless it was a typo by the person writing it up and the tech actually did put 7qts in.
My 4.6 holds 6.5 and a smidge quarts.
Also different oil filters will hold different amounts of oil. Even if they are nominaly the same size.
I suspect they put in six, and topped it a little from a reserve bottle, or if using drum oil they just put in what they take out.
If they used the suction oil change, very popular in California, they usually don't get all of it.
I've had those done on my big block in my motorhome (who want's to do an oil change when on the road?) and at home it takes 8 quarts, but at any quick lube it usually only takes 7.
Anyway, the only important thing is it is full on the stick.

On your first start following the oil change, hold the accelerator pedal all the way to the floow while cranking. It will not start, but is does ensure the filter gets fully primed. After this is done, start the engine as normal.
