Question for those with 24s

I bought a set of 24s a week ago. I brought it back a number of times to be rebalanced because of a steering wheel vibration. They still haven't been able to get rid of it completely and they told me that it's hard to perfectly balance such big wheels and most people just live with the vibration. Does anyone else have this problem or are they just saying that hoping I just deal with it and not come back?

I've had a few sets of 24's I think only one set was perfect. All had a little vib to them at about 65-75mph. It drove me nuts, after many rebalances, I gave up. Thats why I went with 22s this time. Make sure there on tight and to spec. If there new, you will need to retighten them after some miles. That helped tone down my vibs to livable.

So im guessing its normal then. Personally I can't live with it so if I can't get the vibe out I might swap them out for 22s. Does anyone have 24s that ride perfect?

Well I went to have them road force balanced today, but they couldn't do it because of the way the lip is. They did a pin point balance and it fixed alot of the vibe, but not 100%.

Whell, I just bought some 22's and I have a slight "Shake" above 80mph(YES, I know I shouldnt be goin 80mph in the first place!!!) So I'm gonna take it and have it re-balanced sometime this week. My budie has a Chevy with 22's and he says his rides perfect? I can deal with the shakes if i'm forced to, My first two vehicles were Lowriders so i'm used to havin a slightly poorer ride with non OEM wheels!

If you can have them road force balanced. From what I understand it will cure all your vibration problems.

I will surely look into it. What exactly is road force balancing?

Hmmm....I have 24s and they ride like they are on glass. NO VIBES at all anywhere. The key to it is having someone balance the wheels and tires with the right equipment....equipment made for wheels this big. The guy that did my wheels had a $25K balancing machine that was made to accept wheels up to 26s. Of course he charges $60 a wheel to balance them BUT to get it right its worth it (and when you have over $4k in tires and wheels whats another $240 to mount and balance them).

If you descide to get rid of yout 24s let me know...I just bought my wife a Expy and they would look sweet on it. I am thinking of getting a set of 26s for my Screw and putting my 24s on hers BUT if I can get another set of 24s for a good deal I would go that route.

honestly, I have no vibes what so ever, until I hit a 3x3 looking metal object on the highway going about 75-80 mph, (My truck went in the air) . Bent my passenger side rim on the inside, got it fixed, and had to realign my front wheels. Still riding perfect. I agree a good tire shop will do it right.

I know this is a little off topic but does anyone know how much tread they shave when you get them shaved and balanced?

The shop I bought my wheels from is well known place and I took it back at least 5-7 times to have them rebalanced and they couldn't get it right. I also took it to another high end wheel shop and he told me he didn't think he would be able to get the vibe out and he wanted $80 a wheel. The shop I took them to today has a road force balancer so I decided to give them a try and they only charged me $50 for all four. They are very close to near perfect and I think if they were able to road force balance them they would be perfect. Im gonna bring the bill to the shop I bought the wheels from and see if they will pay for it since they couldn't balance them right.

RAM SS/T....what kind of balance machine did that shop use for your wheels??

Are your wheels cast or forged, this makes a difference as well? Many people with large rims buy cast 24's because they are affordable. It needs to be made clear that you get what you pay for when you buy rims. I am having 24" Asanti 3-piece wheels being made because I know how well these wheels are made and they are hub centric where most wheels are not. If you are on a budget Centerline makes some killer forged wheels that are only $400 per wheel. Forged wheels are also a lot lighter making braking possible.
