i've been trying to get a reasonable answer from dealerships as well. to be honest with you... they've been jerkin me around about it. 'its normal' my ***. they replaced my right cam phaser and its still doing it. could possibly be chain tensioners as these motors' cams/cam phasers are chain driven. these chains depend on oil pressure to build up tension. what you and i (what i believe) we are hearing, is that lack of tension. Now, unless there is a fix for it, or maybe there is a way to tighten it up or get pressure earlier i dont think the dealers are going to be able to do anything.

Do you have a 2004 F150 or F250? If you have an F150 and your dealer is telling you that you have a diesel, you might want to try the next dealer. If you do have an F250, first of all you are in the wrong forum, and 2nd that sounds normal to me. Diesels are just loud and rattling sobs at all times.

Mine does the same thing. Only lasts for a split second at start up. And only does it after sitting for several hours. Sounds like valve noise to me. The dealer says it's 'normal.' I disagree, but what you gonna do?
I have noticed that it gets better when I get the oil changed. Maybe something to do with the anti-drain back valve in the oil filter?
Anyway, I guess run it hard and blow it up, OR deal with the noise.

When one pays that much for a truck you should have to deal with it...

Those with the rattle, may I ask what oil and filter you are using?
