Surprising Speed
Surprising Speed
For those who may not remember, my '05 scab was vandalized when eight days old. Now, four months and lots of trips to the dealer, it seems to finally be fixed. This last trip was to completely replace the engine.
Here is what I find surprising. Yesterday, I tried to chip out the engine. I wanted to see if any codes would set this time. The speedometer was still climbing when I backed out of it at 105 mph. I have an '05 F250. It chips out at 97. So do those 1 and 250's of many friends. This truck used to chip out at 97. I don't understand why an engine change would gain me more top speed.
It's not like I'll be using that speed, it just seems curious to me. Later, I drove a measured mile, and checked the trip meter on it, so this seems a real speed increase, not a gearing thing.
Now that I think about it, my service advisor did tell me when I left that he didn't want to hear from me until I called him to say that my truck was running like a scalded @ss dog. Maybe he knows something I don't.
What ever it is, I'm just happy to have my baby home finally.

I have been paying for a new truck since June, that I haven't had more than a weekend or two at most. I've had the truck back two weeks, and had one more test for it before I was satisfied that it was correct. I figure 900 miles since I picked it up from repairs is plenty. If I had wanted a truck that I had to baby, I would have bought a Titan in the first place.
Thank you for your reply and please try to keep up.

acctually there are quite a few articles out there that are advising against the typical babying of the truck for the first few thousand miles. They recommend on driving it pretty hard as the new materials only have a short period of break in now and that the seals will be tighter. There were some post on this on here about 6 months ago i think
Sorry to break it to you guys but wot on a new motor is fine and is a good idea. Now I know that I'm going to get flamed for this but hear me out. The only thing that has to "break in" is the rings have to seat. Now under wot combustion chamber pressure get behind the rings and pushies them against the cylinder walls and HELPS them seal. This speeds up "BREAK IN" and will seal you're ring better then if you baby it. Now I cann't find the link to the site that explains this better then I can but it works. I've done this on every motor I have ever owned and never had a problem. I do this on my dirt bikes as well and after an engine tear down then have no sign of blow-by or piston scuff as long as you let it warm up. I could go on all day but I don't think most of you will belive me. By the way I'm a tech with Ford for 16 yaer 10 of them as an A tech and if you don't think you're truck got a good beating before it you got it you are crazy. Flame away.

While it may be effective break-in procedure for every other engine, there must be a reason why Ford doesn't think it is a good idea for theirs - either it is not, or Ford is incompetent.
First who reads the owners manuel(joke). Now the problem is some people will read that and think that it means to go to the race track and beat the snoot out of there truck. That is not what I an saying. I'm saying wot will help not hurt the truck. Remember Ford has to take a conservative stanse on these matters. I remember back in the early 90's Ford had an ad were a Ranger was basting through a mud puddle about 2 inchies deep and how it was Ford tough, well a kid swamped his blew the motor and told the Ford rep. he saw them do it on T.V. and his truck should have done it also. Well it went to court and Ford lost. They have to assume we lack all common cense to cover there a$$. Again I done expect you to belive me thats fine I have nothing to prove I'm just tell you what I have seem with my own eyes. WOT on a fully warmed up motor WILL NOT hurt you're motor, I have seen it with my own eyes. I know a guy who build race motors for off shore race boats he puts the rings in dry and when it warms up he does a couple of part throttle pulls then lets them rip WOT and I'm talking 1200HP motors. I'm not saying beat the truck but WOT is good for it. Did you buy you're truck new, well i can almost guarantee a young guy preped you truck and he did beat the crap out of you're truck I've seen it in every shop that I've worked in.
