While it may be effective break-in procedure for every other engine, there must be a reason why Ford doesn't think it is a good idea for theirs - either it is not, or Ford is incompetent.

its the same deal with the oil change. you'll get a thousand stories for when to change it. engineers design mechanical components to operate for certain life cycles under certain conditions. Maybe its not in the manual cause the tranny or some other componenets need time to "break in". the Motor however needs to be pushed hard in order to maximize its performance. Plus, who acctually reads their owners manual unless they have a problem.

1 vote for incompetence...

And I read my owner's manual... :o

Anyhow, I am not trying to argue. I conceded that it may be the ideal thing to do to a new engine. But I also believe there is a reason for why Ford does not recommend it.

So what were we talking about again? Oh yeah... the speed limiter on our F-150s and how I am a vagina for maxing out at 85 mph.

I have to agree with you 85-90mph is more then fast enough for a 6000+ pound truck.

The Generals (along with most OE tires...with the exception of some high flotation sizes) are rated at 112mph (S-Rated).

Gotta agree again...it may be good for your motor...but 100+ in a 6000lb truck on an open road (assumption made) is irresponsible at best and possibly wreckless endangerment. If some nut went passed me when I've got my wife and kids in a vehicle @ a 100+ I'd love to see him wrapped around a pole when I got around the corner.

Flame away

your motor doesnt care what speed your going. Break in has to do with RPM's that your motor is reaching. You can get up to 5k in first gear - (good for break in) and drive in a school zone. Or you can do 100+ at 2.5K in overdrive and not really be doing anything to your engine. My owners manual has break in in terms of RPMs not MPH. And while testing the trucks limits or driving 100+ may not be the smartest idea it is required in some cities ( ie. Atlanta where the average highway speed is 85+) After all it seems like most of the people on here have $40K luxury trucks that should be able to do 120+ no problem.

To keep this on topic my 04 tops out at 100 exactly, my 96 was ~95

Nearly everyone that test drove your truck before you bought it, had it wide open throttle, anyway.

This threads makes me want to drive faster on the way home. I'm also going to tailgate, flash people with the KC's, swerve in and out of lanes, etc... It's gonna be great. I forgot my vagina on the nightstand this morning....

Man, you guys haven't lived until you've broken 120 mph in a 1976 Ford Ranger with a highly massaged 460 on a 20 year old Twin I-beam suspension.

Had a police friend clock me on the highway one afternoon. I lifted at 124 with throttle left because that floating feeling from zero road feedback scared the hell completely out of me.

Probably not one of the wisest decisions I've ever made in my life. From that point on it was relegated to strip cruiser and asphalt melter.

Geez, I love the internet.

I love how some people just ASSUME that people were doing ungodly speeds in their 3 ton F-150 while people were around and many of them at that, you know trying to endanger everyone including themselves.

Break it in Right!!!!!!!!!

A good run throught the rpm range is not gonna hurt it. Drive it like you stole it is my motto. Just not over curbs and insane stuff like that. Get that engine in every scenario so it set for the long haul.
