Exhaust Cost??
Exhaust Cost??
Ok, I want to get some type of exhaust for my truck. It's a 2005 Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4L.
I'm not so much concerned about the performance aspect as much as I am about the sound.
My question is...
What type of exhaust should I go with and how much am I looking at spending?
Should I get a cat-back system, or just replace the muffler, and what are the cost/sound/performance differences?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So basically your not really concerned about gaining any performance but you want a good sound? Sounds like your in my shoes, I think Im either going to go with straight pipes and two high-performance cats or a IMCO muffler with two high-performance cats.
The IMCO mufflers are really cheap, only like $30-50 but the two high-performance cats are $180, I believe and I have no idea how much a place would charge you for tips and doing the install. I'd like to know as well!

Thumper, do a search for "exhaust tips" someone posted a web sitre a while ago that had all kinds of tips real cheap. I cant see any shop chareging more than $200 to put on some cats, mufflers and tips.
tardman..theres so many differnet ways you can go with exhaust. I suggest you start searching this site and you will find all different variations, brands, exit locations and anything else you could ever want to know. I think that will help you decide what you want.I went the easy, but expensive route. I ordered the Basanni kit. Cat back, dual tips out the back. Quick bolt on and I was done. Well $650 later

I just want one exit, probably in the stock location with a nice tip I suppose. I was thinking maybe a flowmaster? Just replace the stock muffler and keep all the original pipes and just get a tip welded on. How does that sound?

I'd just replace the stock muffler with an aftermarket and get a tip welded on. It won't cost you more than 175 bucks. As far as sound, quiet and deep you will want Magnaflow. Raspier, throatier, louder, Flowmaster. You may lose performance with the Flow because it has a bunch of unnecessary crap inside the muffler. IMCO 1-chambers, the loudest, deepest and throatiest but smooth sounding. My favorite, it's what I have on my truck.
You can get the JBA aluminized single 3" system for 311.50. It has a nice deep sound at idle, nice sound upon acceleration, and almost unnoticble at cruise speeds. I couldnt tell you about any power gains, as I only have 700 miles on my truck, and have not been wide open throttle yet.
I had my original muffler replaced with a dronemaster...i mean flowmaster, if you want loud and a drone sound in the cab of your truck i highly suggest the flowmaster 40 series.
After im done putting big bucks into my house (repairs) im gonna replace it with a Gibson.

I think I might look at the magnaflow mufflers though.
Is it true that they have a deeper, lower tone sound?
And I know nothing about magnaflow mufflers? Is there a good type that anyone reccomends. Do they have series like flowmasters or something?
