You'll never get the "real" answer you want. Try using a bedcover, and removing your spare tire. Other than that, trade in your truck.

I'm considering the performance upgrades for the HP but I need to justify it to myself for the MPG. Anyone out there have any real info on MPG gains with intakes, exhaust, chips, pulleys, and or electric fans? Thanks for your help. Oh, it'll be for a 2004 super cab 150 4x4 5.4

It has been proven that a bed cover gives you exactly "0" help.
And to be caught out somewhere without a spare???
Come on now you should know better than that

I can honestly tell you that with my AF1, Magnaflow exaust, and bed cover I saw about a 3MPG gain. The question is "Is the 3MPG gain worth the almost $2000 I droped in to the truck?" The answer is my wife thinks anything is worth it to save gas, so I get to spend just about whatever I want as long as I can say it saves gas.

But gee thanks for your time its really appreciated. As for everyone that actually gives input I do appreciate it. I understand it not really going to "justify" the mods, but I was pretty much hopeing that it would help justify them. I mean I'm in it for the HP but I need to convince my wife and the wallet with the MPG. I understand if you like the sounds and performance you drive a little crazier, but aside from that what about the stuff I read about pullies given ya 2-3mpg, or K&N intakes giving back up to 3MPG. Is it really all Bull, or is it there and just lost by the change in driving style? Thanks for any input
I was just looking for an opportunity to use my new picture thingy. Not really trying to bust your chops or anything. Bottom line on MPG is like people have said. For the small gain, it won't justify the expense. I've left mine alone for that exact reason. I thought about the mods for fuel economy since I commutte about 90 miles a day until I saw how much the mods cost.
And I've also found that when your butt dyno says your truck is faster, you usually drive it faster and loose MPG. Just my .02

Thanks for the input everyone! Yeah I'm not looking for miracles, but 2-3 MPG gain I think would satisfy me! I'm still waiting to hear back from troyer. Anyone have any input of the difference between the 1714 that you can add custom tunes to vs the Xcalibrater? Thought that was the point of the Xcalibrater to ad custome tunes, but if you step up to the stage 2 from troyer its says you get a 1714 that you can have them custom tune?

You gotta know that a 2-3mpg gain is a miracle. I'd love to see the look on your face after you blow an easy grand on mods and go through those first few tanks as the realization that you've gained NO MPGs sets in. Hopefully the fun to drive factor offsets the disappointment your facing.

I tested my gas mileage and it sux just like these trucks do. 10.74 MPG
Only MODs are:Mean green air filter(like a K&Nbut green)dynomax bullet muffler with custom dual side exit like a lightning and the Superchips programmer set on 87 tune.
$400 in mods=lousy gas mileage and still get outrun by Hemis and older 5.4 2v
