Well, it would depend on how you want to use your truck. My last truck had the solid window and I hated it. My new one has the power slider. I like to drive with the windows open and rear window helps with moving the air through the cab. What other people said about dust coming in through the window is true though. I hauled a bunch of branches last weekend and I have leaves come in through the window now, so I have to clean out the bed. Also it comes in handy for items that are longer than the bed. I've already used it twice when purchasing trim, 12 and 13 foot peices dont fit in a 6.5 bed very nicely, with the window open i have maybe a foot sticking out the back.

I say it depends on where you live. I got the solid w/ defroster because I hate scraping windows on those cold New Jersey winter mornings. Also don't like the foggy back window on steamy, rainy days. I use it a lot.

Then when I heard about all the rattle problems and a couple theives messing with the sliders, I was more glad I went with the solid.

I got the slider so that I could let the dog jump in/out.

But he slipped one time and blew out the entire rear window assembly. $400

I still use it for two things:

To open and yell at the dog.

To haul long objects without having them tied to the roof or hanging out the back.

I have the manual slider on a reg cab, and I like it. You can pop it open to let a little air circulate when you get into the hot truck, and it's better than opening a window. Also better because when the car next to you starts up, you don't get that face full of exhaust from his side pipes.

I have the rear window visor, so security is not a problem. Also, as I say Reg cab so you can reach it from the drivers seat.

Now that I have a power slider in this truck, I use it a lot more. My last F150 had the manual and I never used it (too much of a paid to reach back to open it up).

The only reason I went with the sliding window was to carry 16' pieces of lumber. Other than that I never open it because of the crap that flies in it. Can't say I've ever needed the defroster on this or my last truck.

I say go with the power slider, I had both pwr and non-pwr slider. It's pretty hard to open it unless you have a reg cab or a pwr slider. Never had a non-slider, I think it looks to plain and cheap not having one.

Solid for all of the reasons listed. I ski almost every weekend in the winter. I can't imagine not having the rear window defrost. I think the slider is mostly a gimmick feature.

I have the power sliver on my screw. Part of me is happy with the look of it from the outside, & having the window open. The other part of me isnt happy for 2 reasons: the window is too small (not like the toyota tundra with the drop down window) and also, for up here, in nyc, the rear defrost would have been better in the cold. Cant have the best of both worlds.
Not in the ford anyways lol

I like the solid window. If you ever have to replace it, much cheaper. Of course I also don't know what it's like to HAVE a back sliding window because I've never had one before, so it could be one of those "I don't know what I'm missing out on" kind of things.
