To make your iPod work with the stereo you don't need to do all that *****, you just need to wait for this company (I can't remember who, but they are based in Clearwater, FL) to come out with their adapter. It allows you to charge the iPod and control it through the raido controls. I had a stereo shop call here in Tallahassee and get some info on it for me. They said it should be ready in a month or two. This was about 3 weeks ago. Once I find out the product name and company I'll let you guys know.

Good luck with that wait. It seemed like this adapter was supposed to be out a few weeks after the 04' trucks came out. I hope you are right though.

I hooked my Ipod up a little easier. (now I have the new color 20gb, so I am aware it is supposed to have a longer battery life hence the reason I am not having to plug it in. It plays about 14 hrs on a charge.)

I installed the aux, input device from P.I.E.

Splicing into the hot and ground from the cigarette lighter for the adapter power.

Plugged the adapter in to the factory radio with out taking the radio out.

Plugged the Belkin RCA to headphone adapter in at the same time.

Ran the belkin cord through the bottom of my bezel so I could put it in the ashtray when not in use.

Plugged my IPOD in and jammin to the tunes. This all took me about 10 minutes, and I was not in a hurry.

I am doing the same thing because I already own the Belking power adaptor. However if I was starting from from scratch, instead of installing a new cigarette lighter behind the dash and purchasing a Belkin cigarette charger, I would use this...
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=793

This essentially hardwires an iPod dock connector to a power supply and gives you an RCA line out.

Which wire to the cig lighter is the +12? There are 3 wires, one ground, and 2 others. One is blue/white, the other is blue/red. ......

Nevermind.....
I used the blue/red. Works great!!

The blue/white is the one listed on the Ford Wiring diagram as the 12V source. Don't know if that blue/red is what you should have hooked up to.

Light Blue/White for the 12v, Black for the ground. All there is to it.

BigTRQ- What is the blue/red for? Is the blue/white always hot and the blue/red only hot when the truck is on? Let me know, b/c I will go and switch it if I have it wrong. Thanks.

Well, in the wiring diagram, it says that this blue/red wire was an early production thing (I've got it and my truck was built in 10/03). It says it goes for Cluster and Panel Illumination. In later production models, this blue/red wire isn't there. Hope that helps. I would say that if the PIE unit works now, no need to change it up.

My truck was also built 10/03. I went ahead and switched it to blue/white. Thanks for the info.

When I installed mine this morning this is what I found:

I checked the following on the lighter:
blue/white to metal ground = 12V
Red/white to metal ground = 0
Black to metal ground = continuity

I checked the following on the accessory plug on right side of panel:
pink/white to metal ground = 12V
Black to metal ground = continuity

I decided to hook mine up to the accessory plug and not the lighter.

Side note: in the PIE instructions it says the radio should read "PIE", on my radio 2004 6-disc it shows "aux with pair of headphones". It still works and the sound quality is awesome .
