30K Service - be prepared for sticker shock. - UPDATE & VIDs...

So I drop off the Tan Terror this morning to get a tie-rod looked at and figured I'd get all the 30K crap done since I'm over 26K right now and don't want to see the dealer again in a month or two.

Dealer is going perform the following:

Balance/Rotate Tires
Flush Cooling
Flush Trans
Flush Power Steering
Replace Fuel Filter
Replace Cabin Air Filter
Fuel injection clean
Regular 30K inspection

I figured I'd be in the $300 arena for all this good stuff. Low and behold the 'ol estimate ran up to $550. I went over the individual costs and each one was outragous. Unreal. But this is what you have to do if you don't have the time or tools to complete said tasks. Man my **** hurts...

I am at 18k now....each of my 5k check-ups + oil change have yet to break $40.....I hope that I don't get raped too bad when the larger check-ups come into play....

A lot of that stuff is snake oil BG products. You don't need a cooling system service for 5 years/100K miles; the transmission flush isn't a bad idea, fluid's cheaper than overhauls or remans, you ain't got a cabin air filter and the induction flush is a load of crap too.

I don’t think we even have a cabin air filter. How much to replace it if you got one?

Yea...I'm gonna eat it too.

My dealer gave me a lifetime warranty on the powertrain but I have to have all my service completed there. The oil changes are free but all the scheduled service has to be completed. I plan on keeping this vehicle a long time so oh well...

Yea well...we'll see how it works out. They are a great dealership but when I roll in at 200k miles and want a new motor then we'll find out how great they really are. Heck they'll probably sell as soon as they get warranty claims to a "new" owner and invalidate all the warranties.

I'm a cynic.

I thought we had a cabin air filter? Your the service tech right? I can't recall who is who 'round here.

Also, why is the induction flush crap? Thanks...

So what do you recommend for the 30,000 maintenance? I'm just over 26,000 miles and just want to know what I should do/have done. Like D, I was expecting about $300 or so but not over $500.

They are pokin ya D. We charge $349 for the 30k service on an F150 and without the cabin air filter since they dont have one! Ours includes everything else you mentioned though. Just drive down to Texas and get it done, you;ll be closer to 30k then anyway! Almost forgot, we give a free rental car for the day on 30k services also.

Mother ?$#@! And I though I had a good dealer.... I'll be wheelin' and dealin' when they say it's ready...

I figured it would be around $300... your price seems fair. Got any onlines ads or something I can show those bastards?! Ads to fax/e-mail... anything?!!! I need ammo!

See if they charge you for a cabin air filter you don't have, then bust their ***** from there...

Somehow I think they'll find a way around it. I've never heard of a lifetime warranty. That kind of stuff would put them right out of business!
