Exclamation Fuel gauge on empty with full tank

I filld my 04 up the other day. When I started it the gauge went to empty and the bell sounded. It has been like that for about 3 days or so. Now I dont even know how much gas I have in the tank. Anybody else have this problem?

Eh, quick trip to the dealer should patch it right up. Some other guy in another forum said his gas guage was working, but the message center says 0 miles to empty. Wierd.

Anywho, fill up that tank and reset your trip ODO... hopefully you have some idea of what your mpg's are for your normal driving routine. DO the math and give yourself a buffer for error. You'll be fine.

I had a similar thing happen to me once when I changed my SC tune while filling up. Took a while, but it went back to normal. If yours did it on its own, as the others said, get her to the dealer...

believe it or not it could be the kind of gas you're using. mine was doing the same thing and wasn't registering. the service guy told me to switch gas companies and it worked. haven't had a problem since. you might want to change out the fuel filter as well. it could be all bunged up. hope this helps.

I had that problem. They told me to make sure you have the key turned off when filling up (no listening to the radio).

Try resetting the PCM. Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes

I had that problem too. I filled up but my gauge only read about 1/2 tank. I later found out it was because I had the ingition on (motor was off) while I was filling the tank. About a day or so later it was working normal again.

This would be correct. The gauges are electronically controlled, they don't get the signal from the sending unit anymore. If you have the key on when you fill up, the system needs to reset to give the proper reading. This can take 20 minutes or even a couple days.
